I recently installed a Kenwood KDC205 am/fm cd stereo in my 87 Vette. It was dirt cheap and is a really nice unit, fit right into my existing wire harness as the old unit was also a Kenwood.
Only problem is I am not happy with the silver removeable face plate .
It sticks out like a sore thumb against the black console..more than I thought My question is this...the unit is brand new, can I
just buy another comparable Kenwood model, one like I should have with a black face plate and expect it to be interchangeable??Or do I have to change out the whole unit???? I need a Kenwood because I have an existing Kenwood CD changer. Thanks
Thats a tough call.. You're really going to have to research what kenwood models come with their cd changer link system, I cant remember what its called right now - and that the connector I/O has the same wiriing, which is close to impossible. But that should only be your only problem! If your lucky enough to get your model and the model you want in your hands somehow, that would be the only way to make 100 percent sure it would work. Bummer. Maybe someone else has one here, that you can maybe put a voltmeter to, and at least find comon grounds, and some diode values that are the same off the faceplate I/O. And thats no fun.
maybe someone with another kenwood will hit ya up.
I have a Kenwood Ez700SR in my 86 coupe that has a black face plate with siver *****. Why don't you pop out your face plate and take it into a radio shop and compare it to yours.
