I'm looking into replacing the head unit on my '03 and found that I need an adapter. The question I have is if I use the soundgate adapter do I need to tap into switched power for the head unit to work. I've read elsewhere that this has to be done and the wire is in the passanger footwell. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks for the info , although I couldn't find what I was looking for. I'm not really interested in replacing the whole system, just want to add a head unit with MP3 capability.
yup you need to tap into switched power elsewhere becuse the h/u's switched power is controlled by the bcm and when its disconnected there is no communication between the two so it disables it.
here is a pic in from another member that shows you where he grabbed switched 12v+ from
i got my remote turn on from wire harness just about the toe kick, but i forgot what wire i hooked into. i want to say it was a loom with 3 or 4 wires... (red, orange, black...maybe) look for that loom and break out the multimeter and you'll find it quickly enough.
From: Alhambra Calismognazifornia, in the country everyone comes just to complain but won't go back home!
i seem to remember tapping into a power line when i installed my HU but it certainly wasn't in the passenger footwell. i think i tapped off the ignition switch
I tapped into the accessory lead at the ignition switch. It is a large brown lead. Due to the gage of the wire, I couldn't use the saddle type splice. I went to Radio Shack and got a pin connector and inserted the pin on the back side of the wire connector that plugged into my ignition switch. Works like a charm.
