[C5] aftermarket speaker question
i know the coupe is supposed to use 6.5's in the rear but crutchfield lists 6.75's. i called them and asked about it and their tech told me that what they are is "oversized" 6.5's (he says OEMs use these alot) which they call 6.75's. anyway, they said that "regular" 6.5's will be a little too small and you'd need an adapter. i also asked him why some speakers they have with smaller depth and cutout diameter sizes say they won't fit and he told me that it was due to the protrusion towards the front, that the stock grills wouldn't fit. so, my question is, what actual speakers have people dropped in on their C5 coupe in the rear panel without any mods? i'd really like to get the infinity 3-ways in there but obviously want something that fits. i already tried some old DVC Blaupunkts but they're too deep...they sound awesome though .
please don't waste your time with "forget that route, redo the whole system", that's not what i'm looking for.
thanks for the info
I had Infinity Kappa's, but switched to Rockford Fosgate FFC65's due to the lower RMS rating. If you're keeping the stock HU don't get a speaker expecting a lot of power.
Crutchfield is great for doing research about products, but IMO they are way overpriced and their techs are often full of I bought my CD changer cable from them, they sent me illustrated instructions on how to take apart the dash to get at the rear of the HU. Since the cable plugs in on the passenger floor board, and I knew that, I called them to let them know they may want to change the instructions they're sending out. The tech told me that I was wrong and that I MUST remove the dash and HU to connect the cable. I explained to him that I had already connected the cable under the kick board, but he still insisted that it wouldn't work. I don't get much from them any more.

Haha, ive never called crutchfield, but they sound alot like HP. Unfortunatly those poor tech guys have no say into those documents. You probably just hurt his feelings

hey mark, thanks for the response. are either of these what you had? these are the ones i'd like to get if they fit: Infinity Kappa 6 1/2's
i've seen the "any normal 6.5 will fit statement" before but i tried the Blaupunkts i had and they didn't fit (too deep). what makes them "abnormal"? are they deeper than normal because of DVC?
i've also been considering these audiobahns , Lightning Audio's, Phoenix Gold's, and CDT's .
anyone recommend any other 6.5 2 or 3-way that they've fit in the rear?
any recommendations, reviews on the ones i've listed?
i'm not keeping the stock HU, i've already installed the Pioneer Avic-N1 .
i agree on crutchfield though, great for researching stuff and definitely overpriced. except when they have sales it's very competetive with just about anyone because they include all harnesses and adapters you might need.

Yeah, I know they're only reading stuff on a screen in front of them, but this guy was getting on my nerves the way he insisted that his way was right and the way I had already done it would never work. It resembled some of your posts, only it was over the phone

I had the 63.5i's, got them new on eBay for somewhere around $60 if I remember right. They just seemed to be wanting way to much power to make them sound good with the fronts. I had to turn the fade **** to 9:00 just to make it even front to back, which then made the fronts sound crappy. I changed them out to the lower rated RF's and all is good. Maybe I'll put them back in when I finally get my amp install completed.
