Looking for some assistance in choosing a new stereo. Not looking for anything extensive, just want to replace the delco/bose. Looking for a cd player, but it must have a black face to blend into the stock dash. Will probably be putting the speakers in the dash, and the rear, but leave the doors out of the picture. I have an 88 coupe. Thanks!!
The Alpine 9855 has the best look out of all I've seen. I have one on order but I'm using a 9853 in the meantime. The only drawback to the 9853 is that the display and buttons are predominately blue. Blue just doesn't cut it for me. The Clarion DXZ745MP is also a very nice match but the Alpine Ipod interface is what sold me. With the Ipod in the console, it's like having a cd changer that holds 100 or more discs and it takes up almost no space at all. Sounds as good as cd's if you have quality MP3's.
The only one I've seen is on the touch screen dvd unit which is a bit too much gadget for my taste and also has a blue display which does not match the LCD Vette dash well (green or amber). I would imagine they will come out with other interfaces for the mainstream units but the new Clarion lineup looks hideous to me with the silver boxes at either end for the *****. Looks like a few companies copied that style from each other this year. I guess it's supposed to look retro or something. The nice thing about the Alpine interface is it's plug and play with no power wires to hook up.
By the way for Vetteboy88, I just read that the new Clarion interface is due out during the summer and will work off the Cnet bus so it's possible that it would work with the DXZ745MP which has the Cnet bus and looks better than the new lineup for your car and costs under $200 at some retailers. I have one myself in another vehicle and it rocks and has hundreds of color combinations for the display and buttons. I really liked Alpine's Biolite display for my '86 though.
