Hey guys. I have a set of Boston Pro series 4.5's which I love, but they are starting to age and I am definitely looking for a little more punch in the mid bass area. 6 inchers won't fit anywhere up front on a C3 without a lot of modifications. I am looking for a decent set of components with a 5 inch woofer. What do you guys like?
Ok, I'll say it first... CDT, Rainbow, Dynaudio, Focal, Infinity, Morel, MB Quart. All of those brands have entry level componants, and super high end expensive models. But really any of them are pretty damn good.

Do you recommend any of them as better bang for the buck?
I know all of the good brands (I have owned a few of them), but I would like to hear what you guys have heard and what you'd be willing to buy.
i've owned mbquarts and cdt's I prefer the cdt's because the price and quality
x2 on that one. I have the exact same speakers as scott and am thrilled with them. One thing does bug me about them is the terminal leads on my EF's. They seem a bit sloppy, but after hundreds of installs over the years, ive gotten picky.
However, I find that Bostons don't have such a good sound off axis. If the tweeter is blocked, your screwed.
Another option are the JL Audio 2 way separates. Not bad at all.
Actually, I kinda liked the tweeter of the Bostons. I am probably going to move the tweeter from the kickpanel to the windshield pillar though to make room for a larger mid. Maybe I should just be looking for a nice 5 inch mid?
My company deals directly with car audio engineers regarding processors and materials. Here are the company's that use the best technology and IMO have the best component systems.
1) Diamond HEX Series
2) Focal Utopia Line
3) MB Quart
All amazing speakers of which I've seen over a 1000 watts ran to all of them with amazing clarity.
no... the crossover for a 4" and a 5" is different.
Yeah, I see that, I have read Boston's tech pages and the 4 and 5 are not even in the same classification, and each crossover is different. I guess I will be looking for a whole new set (but I am keeping the tweets just in case ).
So I guess my list will be narrowed down to Boston, MB Quart, CDT, Focal, and Diamond if I can find some sets to listen to. Thanks for the input guys, I will let you know what I decide on and how they sound.
I currently use Focal's (white Talon), MB Quart (red Talon), and Infinity (the Vette). The Focals are the best, but the Infinity Perfects for 1/3 the price will still kick butt
