It's AI Net.... as I understand it, the 7998 is uptodate with all Alpine accessories. I know that the 7998 is Sat radio ready, not just XM. Read that on the Alpine site.

Have you considered calling Alpine directly? I know... abstract concept...

Why would I do that? It wont increase my post count. After doing some research, there's a few versions of the 7998. Its compatible with the one that has 'quick search.' Alpine's online manual is broken for the 7998, so I guess ill have to play with it.

Irritatingly enough, the 7998 doesn't read ID3v2 tags.

The 7998 is not compatible. Gues sits time for a 9855, which offers like NO real advantage :/

If you want to sell that 7998 I'd be interested. I want another 9835 for my C6 but can't find 'em new. I'm not thrilled with the 9855 glide touch thing.

Yeah, I'll be selling the 7998 once I make sure I like the 9855. The glide touch is a huge turn off for me too. As well as the "regular din" screen. The 7998 is much cooler, but one button short of ipod support.

the 7998 works flawlessly... Bought it from a forum vendor. Its pushing 2 years old now.

mine passed 2 years in January. I love it...

I don't care about iPods... so it doesn't phase me one wit.

When I add sound, I am going to get the Alpine changer, the S680(?), because it will play DVDs... and DVD audio is where it's gonna be...

I don't mean to hijack this thread BUT.....my buddy is dumping his stereo inventory. He just wants to focus on tuning. He is an Alpine, Focal, Jl Audio and Kenwood dealer. He is selling his inventory at or around cost. I am 100% sure that he has brand new 9835 and 9833 in stock brand new. PM me if u want his name and number.

I bought the 420 adapter and used it for an AUX hook up. There is a switch on the case of the 7998 that is for AI-NET or an AUX hook up. I have the following unit installed and working flawlessly:
