Escort 8500 X50 hard wired
Just got the unit installed in my Vette.
I didn't see any websites showing how to hardwire this thing.
I've found out:
Using a 4-line phone line.
Red = Ground
Green = +12
Yellow = Open
Brown = Open
I did not wire the remote.
It beats paying $29.00 for the Direct Wire Cord .
My cost was $3.95 for the break out line...
I've seen the BMW website showing green=ground and red=+12. It seems to be wrong....

I put my Escort 7500 in my C5 a month ago...same thing
I took an old phone cord, using the two middle wires.
Red is positive.
Black or Green - depends on the phone cord - is negative.
I stripped the wires, soldered some sections of safety pins on the ends to make it easy to get in the mirror harness connectors, and that was it. I had the end of the wires tinned, but they kept bending and finally broke, so I soldered the stiff safety pin wires on the end. They made a much better connection with the spring steel.
Pushed the red wire to 12 volts and the black wire to negative on the back of the mirror.
Used the suction cup mounting that came with the Escort.
Mounted it up high above the rear view mirror.
Works great and is out of sight.
If you can solder, make your own...it's very easy and a lot cheaper than paying for one.
