Amp fuse - where to install?
I understand that the rule of thumb is "18 inches from the battery". Can it be closer? I'd like to have the fuse next to the battery, under the hood... rather than in the cabin under the passenger feet.

Close to the battery is good. 18" is a rule made by an organzation called IASCA. That fuse you does not protect your amp it protects your car. Incase your power wire gets shorted the fuse will blow and prevent your car from catching fire. So as close to the battery as possible is good.
