I was looking into some of the features in the manual and I am wondering if I made the right choice.
Can the AVIC-D1 run an AUX audio in, such and an I pod or mini disc without need some sort of interface? I only see "audio in" for the external DVD player. The manual mentioned the need of an interface for an I pod.
I gather now that the AVIC-D1 will not play dvd's on it's own. any idea on a good pioneer dvd player?
basically can someone lay down the difference here, (pro's and cons)and maybe help me out with deciding if I should return the D1 for the N2?
I did not like the fact the the N2 has a gyro to sense when to play video. which might not be a big deal. I have no idea how much video play it will see. and a possible defeat was posted in this forum.
second, I hated the fact then when I touched the touch screen, the monitor pushed back, in effect making me put more pressure on the face. it felt like I would break it in a month.
Does the N2 have a built in, or included TV reciever? not that I care to much for this, just curious. what does one get for the extra $500.00
I have not yet messed with either radio. I am waiting for one of two friends to get them in stock and me to have the time to bench test them. To see if we can get the video to work. I have read there are several differences between the two. I do believe the N2 comes with a TV tuner just like the N1 did. Technically the N1 and N2 are exactly the same with only difference being the software.
I am looking at the D1 for my 2004 Z06. I was going to go with the N2 but the retractable screen just doesnt do it for me. I think you need external modules for an ipod, tuner and dvd player, I think these run between $100 - $250 each, depending on which one. I think for the N2 you also need all of the external modules as well.
I have the N1 with the tuner/12 disc CD/XM Radio modules. Seems to be a well designed system. One other little goodie I have is a Avix 80GB hard drive. This has a built-in Divx and MP3 player. Just plug-in to the Aux and make sure you have turned on the Aux Video in the N1. This also comes with a remote control. Velcroed to the underside of the console lid and use the DC there for pwr. I convert all of my DVD's to Divx. With 80GB of space, thats about 160 movies on-line. PC transfers are done with a USB cable. These HD's are 2.5" and come in 20, 40, 60 and 80GB flavers. No need to carry DVD's or CD's anymore!
I have an AVIC-N1, it did not come with a tv tuner. However, it is my understanding that Pioneer makes a tv tuner "black box" that can be added on via the hidden units' interface. I would also think that an external tv antenna would have to be mounted as well.

Bill,
I'll be at the show this Sunday at Royal HS. Take a look at the setup I'm running.

Any idea where to mount a single din dvd player?
The glove box looks pretty small.
I didnt want to move the AC controls, unless it is really easy to do.

The hard drive sounds pretty cool.
I think I might of seen you 2 weekends ago comming out of the GM dealer? A silver C5 that sounded pretty mean?

Glex, I've got the N1 also and you've got me very interested in this little HD. I checked out the website and it looks great. Is it really as simple as it seems? AV cable direct from AivX HD to N1 hideaway box? Power with DC converter right from cig lighter inside console? I'm really liking this possibility. How do the converted movies look on screen, as good as direct off the DVD? Do you get a menu that pops up on screen so you can select which movie to play? or how do you know what's playing?
lol. lots of questions...
thanks!

It is that easy! A menu does display allowing you to play the movie, mp3 or pic of your choice. As far as the quality goes of the video, it's great. Since the screen is small you won't notice much of a diff between a dvd and divx. With "Dr. Divx" software, you can select the amount of compression from very portable to dvd quality. This results in file sizes from approx 200meg to over 1GB.
The only problem with the menu system is that it is a little difficult to read the file names (text is not very sharp) while driving!
You can also create playlists for movies. I put all my mp3's in their respective artist/album folders. This way it will play the whole album that is selected automaticly. Just one more note, this hd plays avi, wmv, vob and divx video files.
