Im doing a box just like this one but the only thing im changing is where he installed black carpet im wanting to paint it TR to match the car. Is there any way to get the MDF board to shine like the fiberglass will? Would I have to layer the board with glass and then bondo it? or can I just add bondo to cover the board?
Spray about 4-5 coats of primer and wet sand using 400 grit wet with a rubber sanding block. Just use water from a thick sponge to keep the surface wet not drenched. The primer fills in the grains of the wood and makes the surface very smooth.
After it's painted the surface will look like metal.
GKK is right on. I am about to paint a bunch of MDF and when finished it will all look like a standard car finish. He did leave out that you should use a high fill 2k primer though. That will give you a good build up. Also the MDF will soak up the first coat or two...don't worry about it.
