Default C5 stereo setup questions.

I have recently replaced my HU with an alpine 9853, and replaced the front 3.5" with alpines as well. I have the soundgate adapter to run the blose subs in the doors. I get alternator whine with the adapter and since my friend has an alpine 10" sub for cheap, i want to get rid of the door subs and just put a sub in the back.
I am pretty happy with the sound right now, but with some songs that use low freq, the front woofers sound like crap and ruin the sound.
  • I know I will need an amp for the sub, but should I get an amp for the remaining speakers?
  • Since I'll be removing the front subs, what should I put in place of them if anything.
  • If I decide to put quality mids and higs in the doors do I really need the rears as well?

any more suggestions would be appreciated. My main concern is that the sound may be weak with only the tiny 3.5" up front and the stock rear speakers.

Default Stereo setup

I'm in the planning stages of my stereo upgrade myself. Here's what I've found in my months-long research. In volume 16, no. 5 edition of Car audio magazine, they upgrade a C5 with 3 piece seperate components in the doors. This is made possible with a fiberglass and medium density fiberboard custom job. For the rears, 5 1/4's were used as well as a set of coaxials for the rear panel just above the center storage compartment. Again, with the custom fibers. A set of 10" inch woofers were used using a false floor setup. A total of 4 amps were used to power everything.
I know it sounds a bit extreme and if you want to see what it looks like go to caraudiomag.com for the web version of this story. Its got great pics. At this point I'm trying to find someone who will construct a fiberglass setup for the door speakers so I may add 3 piece components. If you find anything let me know.

Here is what i'd do:

get a 4 chan amp. run the doors off of chan 1&2 and then bridge 3&4 for the sub. get a pair of good quality components (either 2 or 3 way) to replace the front bose pieces and dont even worry about rears.

This will get you great soundstage and with that sub you'll get plenty of low end and with the components you'll get great highs.

you can cut some speaker mounts for the front components out of mdf using the stock bose brackets as a template or you can contact vrumvum for some speaker mounts.

alright. I've picked up a mono sub amp (alpine mrd-m301) and i'm gonna mount it out back by the sub. if i get the components for the doors, will i need an amp for those too? if i do can i mount it behind one of the seats, or under the seats???

it is best to get an amp for components, they usually require a bit more juice to produce great sound.

why did you opt for a mono amp? with a four chan amp you would only have to worry about mounting one amp and running one power cable.

mounting under the seats is an option but you have to make sure you're not taxing the amp, it doesn't warrant a lot of room for cross ventilation. behind the seats would be better but still subject to overheating.

i picked up the mono amp for cheap on ebay. although i've contacted the seller and he might relist it if i pay him for the ebay fees.

would this be a good amp to run some cdt components up front and a single 10" alpine sub?
