How to determine sub box dimensions/volume?
I have a 2001 silverado regular cab that I am puting a system into. As some of you know, there is not much room behind the seat of a silverado regular cab truck. Here is my truck (I am on the pit crew of a couple of local race teams-seen here towing a NE III nitro dragster @ Pomona)

I had a box built for behind the seat ($150.00)

It is for two 10's and the box is sealed.
I have two JL Audio 10W6's leftover from my Vette(now a race car with stripped out interior etc) that were in a ported box.
I am very un-happy with the sound of the sealed box. I was really happy with the ported box in the Vette.
With age, my ears can't take that kind of bass anymore. I would like to cut the sealed box up and make it for one 10" PORTED.
Anyone know how to take an existing box and figure out it's cubic volume? I don't know how much CV a ported 10" wants or what port size. If I knew how much I needed and how much I have, I could cut the box accordingly.
I looked for but could not find ported boxes for silverado regular cabs.
Any help is appreciated!!!
T+B divided by 2 = D
D times B times L = cubic inches
cubic inches divided by 1728 = cubic feet 1728 is one cubic foot
Now you will know the internal volume. I suggest you find out the recommended air space for your JL sub in a ported enclosure. Keep in mind the space the port occupies has to be accounted for on the internal volume. Example.....if your sub requires a 1 cubic foot enclosure and uses a port that takes up .5 cubes you will need to make the internal volume 1.5 cubic feet. JL audio has the specs for their subs on their web site and should be easy for you to figure out.
yes, it is a wedge shape.
I measured inside the box
Top = 2"
Back = 12"
Front angle = 13"
Bottom = 6"
Length = 54"
So,
2" + 6" = 8"
8" divided by 2 = 4
4 X 6 = 24 24 X 54" = 1296
1296 divided by 1728 = .75
Is this right?
Try just one 10" and seal the other 10" hole. I'm sure the box in your vette was larger than than the truck box. It would not hurt to shove about a 1/2 pound of polyfill in the box too. Good luck
