Default Troubleshooting C4 CDM

Need some insight on troubleshooting to see if I have a CDM problem.

Background:

- 1991 ZR-1

- HU recently fixed along with one speaker amp (all four had been replaced earlier, this was a replacement of a replacement amp ).

- CD was playing and tunes were good until during a first to second gearshift the music die (The stereo music that is..., the LT5 music was still singing away )

Troubleshooting:

1. With HU on (either radio or CD) and the volume all the way up, I only get a Very, Very Low Sound output at the speakers. I can just hear the speakers from the sitting in the drivers seat (with engine off). I have to place my ear near each speaker to understand the music, its that low of volume. All four speakers are putting out this low sound.

2. I have tested each speaker connector for power. Each one is getting +12 volts at the Orange and Black wires at the enclosure connector coming from the CDM.

3. I have attached a test speaker to the other two wires at the enclosure connector and there is No Sound.

4. I have connected a walkman to the speaker amps and there is No Sound. I attach the walkman directly to the speakers and I get Sound.

Is this a Speaker Amp problem or a CDM problem?

Since I am getting some sort of signal (Very, Very Low Sound) with everything hooked up I am thinking that the CDM is supplying signals to all four speaker and the speaker amps are bad (all of which have been replaced over the years).

But shouldn't I also get some sound when I connect the test speaker directly to the enclosure connector that leads back to the CDM?

Those who have removed a CDM will understand why I would rather not have to remove mine if I don't have to.

Thanks,

DMark

Well, it was a bad CDM.

Installed the repaired CDM back into the ZR-1 last night. Everything powered up and the sound is much stronger and clearer than before.

Yet..., I pray that some hot corner of Hell is allotted for the folks at Bose that designed the installation of this system in the Corvette. I have never seen such a case of 10 pounds stuffed into a 5 pound space.

The repaired was done by:

SAME DAY AUTO AUDIO REPAIR SERVICE INC.
1228 SOUTH MILITARY HWY. SUITE F
CHESAPEAKE VA, 23320
RCH72@aol.com

The owner, Rich, can be found on ebay. He is quick and his prices are very good.
