it'll be a tight fit but it may be doable. so i assume you're moving the ac controls down. i would remove the monitor from it's housing and mold the housing in. i would also check to see how the control panel on the unit is mounted. with any luck it'll be on a seperate pcb. if it is see if you can relocate it. if you recess the monitor then you could put the buttons laying horizontally on the frame you would build. another option is if there is an ir port you could just relocate that and forget about the buttons all together and just use the remote.
check out the faq again, i realized there was a picture that i accidently deleted
Got all my goodies today and the monitor has remote (to be ordered separately)
That helps a lot.
I want to mount the screen behind the dash plate for a clean seamless look.
Problem will be the side gaps between monitor and screen.
Looks like I'm going to have 1/3" gap on sides.
The A/C will have to be bumped down ~ 1/2"
I still have to figure out where to put HU and DVD player.
HU may fit in existing ash tray, but I'll have to do some cutting.
DVD maybe in glove box?
This should be interesting as I'm not into schlocky looking stuff
I'll post pics along the way as well.

Reason: addition
drop the ac down to the ash tray area, a h/u down there would be a pain in the butt to interact with. and since you have the option of a remote.... hack up that screen case!

Yeah....you're right about the HU locale. That would be a PITA to get discs in/out.
Hack the screen case?!
You're a brave man, but I'm up to the task. It is a fairly cheap monitor....
Working on door speaker templates now. First one done and the fit appears good so far.

That is some pretty fancy plastique work!
Thanks for the link.
Update:
This particular install is not for the faint of heart.
Removed a few pieces of metal that the cig lighter part of console was mounted to.
Drilled new holes for the HVAC unit.
All fits snug, but not too snug.
Monitor on top
Alpine HU in center
HVAC on bottom
May even be able to keep lower bar on dash face, but will know by tomorrow. I'm out of light and tired.
Am tracking with pics, just need to know how to put them up when I'm done.
Still trying to find optimum spot for DVD unit.

Update:
Got amp wiring complete except for ground...
This took a lot of time as I haven't pulled a Vette apart yet.
It always seems easy once you've done it, but I had some fun routing the + amp wire through the fire wall.
Finally found the little grommet behind the battery.
More to come.
Any ideas on where to ground the amp in the trunk area?
I pulled the carpet and only see rivets and plastic.

Thanks for the encouragement! System is sounding great so far, but I haven't figured out the dash face yet. Fitment is fine, I just have to fill in with epoxy and make cut out for hvac deeper.
The fun begins!
