Default Interesting time at Tweeter with my AVIC-N2....

So I installed the AVIC-N2 headunit in my car a few weeks back and after realizing the radio reception sucks pretty bad on it I decided to go ahead and get XM for it. I was going to do the typical two piece adapter (antenna in one box, pioneer headunit specfic adapter is the other...as I'm sure most of you know).

First stop: Bestbuy. They knew exactly what I wanted but unfortunately only had the antenna part in stock, they had ran out of the pioneer adapters, so I went ahead and bought the antenna part while I was there then headed down the street to Tweeter.

Second stop: Tweeter. I walk in, 3 sales guys pounce on me and I tell them I have the AVIC-N2 headunit and the antenna half of the XM setup and just need the pioneer specific adapter. They look at me pretty dazed and confused and walk with me over to the headunits and ask "so, what are you looking for again?". I point out my headunit, tell them what I need, again, and they seem to halfway understand. They then take me to a room in the back where they just have boxes of accessories and tell me that I HAVE to get the navtraffic tuner, the two piece adapter won't work with the N2. I tell them they're full of crap--it says on the BOX of the other adapter (that was I was LOOKING at) that it will work with the N2. One of the salesmen then tells me that he knew for a fact you HAD to use the navtraffic adapter with last years (N1) model, none of the other ones would work so he could only assume it was the same for the new model.

LAST YEARS MODEL DIDN'T HAVE NAVTRAFFIC WHEN IT WAS RELEASED MORON. I told him that and he basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about... I finally just asked him for the price on the navtraffic tuner and he says $449. The thing LISTS on the PIONEER website for $330 if my memory is working right here. I told him that and he said "well, let me go look it up, I might be able to cut you a deal on it". I told him to quit wasting our time, I'd buy it off ebay if I wanted navtraffic, which I didn't since it doesn't work around here yet, for $200. He mumbled some crap about "oh well, if you have access to that then go for it, $449 is retail though"

SO, now I have to go BACK out today to get the rest of my XM setup... I wouldn't reccomend shopping at the Tweeter on Wendover in Greensboro, NC.

I hate Tweeter formerly Now Audio Video. I went to the one on Stratford once to get some advice on my surround sound set up for my living room. I had two different sets of speakers that I had already owned and I wanted his recomendation on which he thought were best. He kind of rolled his eyes at me and said he couldn't help me. I looked at some of the stuff in the store and it was WAY over priced. $60 for 25 feet of speaker wire???? Give me a break.

yea, lot of cool stuff for sure...not sure if anybody actually buys anything or not though. It seems to be by far the most expensive of the big three chains around here (bestbuy/circuit city/tweeter) and I've yet to find a sales person there that had a clue. Oh well...

hmm...i had tweeter do a system in my $hitvic and it was pretty nice. i knew what i wanted when i got there, but the price was pretty fair for everything.

the only thing i hate is that the alpine cd player started having problems and they said they would send it back...but i would be without a radio for 2-3 weeks....

i waited till i got rid of the car, then i let them send it back.

I'm not sure since I've never bought anything big from there... but it seems like there's a lot more room to haggle with prices from them. I know at bestbuy you're pretty much going to pay the price marked, period. When I told the sales guy I could get the navtraffic unit cheaper he said he'd look it up and see if he could lower the price. I really can't believe they had the price that far above MSRP, geez.

Oh well, to bestbuy I go...

Sucks to have a bad experience with uneducated people that are supposed to be in the know.

Of course, its just as bad to have them see you pull up in a Vette and some 20 yr old kid with $ signs in his eyes, slicks his way over like he can sell freezers to the eskimos and then proceeds to push a load of stuff you don't need on you.

I also love when they try to sell you on their "latest" line of speakers by sampling THEIR favorite cd. This is usually the poorly produced, rage rapola b.s. that offers no sense of imaging or SQ at all!

I only go to Tweeter for odds and ends, and not very often anymore.
They're always good for a laugh though.

I'll be 37 Saturday, so I'm not an old fart just yet. It's not the age thing as much as someone who doesn't know what they heck they're talking about trying to take advantage.

Congrats on the Vette at an early age. I'd have killed myself if I had access to this kind of power at 17!

Just incase anybody was wondering...the $49.95 generic pioneer XM adapter works just fine on the AVIC-N2. It has to be the newest model of it, but it'll work regardless of what any salesman says...
