Default 90 Corvette Bose Stereo problems

Hello to all,
I know this has been hashed over before, but can someone please tell me what exactly has caused my Bose to only have one pass. side front speaker that works? first the one on the driver/front went out, then the back ones started to make crackling noises, and now they don't work and only the one lonely front/pass side works. It's a good thing that I have a "tin ear" and not one to be too fussy about sound but it would be nice to have them all work like they should. Something about the speaker transformers? or what if i recall. Can someone tell me exactly what happens to these supposedly great BOSE GOLD radios that makes the speakers bum out like that? I recall that there is some radio Dr. that fixes these. Is it necessary to remove all the speakers or is it a "central" fix for all of them? Please email me directly if you would or post an explanation in laymans terms what causes this to happen. Very disappointed with this common problem.........

Ok, real quick I'll sum a few things up for you and then give you a few links to explore further.

It sounds like you are having the most common problem which are the speaker amps are going bad. Yes, you have an amp in each separate speaker and they need to be replaced from time to time. You have several choices, but here are the most common fixes. You can send the amps to

Bose

Dr. Dons

FCSR

http://carstereohelp.com/corvette.htm

Even though the Bose site does not have specific repair info, you can call their 1-800 number to get the info you need. I recommend them for one major reason. All three have good reputations and prices, but if you send Bose the entire speaker, they will replace the amp, and everything else including the speaker cone, to factory specs for the same price.

Having said that the other two do a fine job if you only want to send out the amp alone.

Good luck

They're $56 from Bose -- everyone else will charge you double that. I''ve replaced all four.

How long does it take to get your speakers back from Bose?

Z factor summed it up pretty well, additionally the head units also have the electronics placed in a way that causes probs. w/cd player. I spoke w/dr. don at great length and he explained the system, also the problems lies in access to the ccm under the pass. side dash, so once you get in there you might as well relaocate to under the pass. side storage comp. After taking it all into account, price, optons etc. I went w/an aftermarket sys. (CCM access is still a pita)
