I just added a sub to my beater and really want one in my Vette now.
anyone got an idea?
Well I am putting one in my project car ('90 vert) which should be done by the end of summer. Anyway since I totally took out the interior for various reasons I am putting one 12" sub in the back up against the back wall facing forward (went component up front). How am I doing this you ask, well you probably won't like my solution but I will never go back to stock so I actually cut out the enclosures for the back speakers, with a dremel, flush with the floor and back wall. If my measurements are right I should actually have more room back there when I'm done, I'll know more in a weekend or two after I get the box built and in the car. On the off chance you do try this I warn you that it makes a big mess, fiberglass dust goes everywhere.
my rear speakers are right behind my seats as it is an 89
do you have any progress pics?
I'll see if I can get a pic or two for you tomorrow, but in the '90 which I though was the same, the rear speakers are in angled enclosures, which start after the rear compartment doors, you have atleast a foot, I think even more, from rear of seat to where it angles up. I got a Kicker Solobaric sub because it is designed to be used in much less air space than a conventional sub. You can pick these up on ebay in good shape for very resonable prices, just know that you need a pretty good amp to push them. I don't like the new square design solobaric speakers, I bought the older round design.
I can't find any of the enclosures cut out so I'll give you a pic of before and a VERY crude pic/drawing of what I'm doing. the red line is what I'm taking out, the yellow is how the face of the new box will be. Hopefully you can visualize it. Only problem is if you do this it you'll have a hard time putting it back to stock if you should want to, as in you'll have to find some more enclosures. They are rivitted and glued to the floor and back wall.
I know when you are done it will sound good. I put a bazooka in mind, with a quick disconnect so when i go somewhere I replace it with luggage. I love it, cause it's removable. You might look into having install a bazooka, it sounds awsome.
