Default Cleanest amplifiers

I am looking for your opinion on the cleanest car audio amplifiers. I used to have a system powered with Orion amps which was the cleanest and most powerful system I had ever had. Insane headroom. So now I am deciding what to put in my car. Considering bidding on some old Orion off Ebay but you can never be sure what you are getting. What do you reccomend for good sound quality? Currently my system is powered by Eclipse but it's just missing the dynamics.
Gimme some advice guys!!

I'm about to audition a few McIntosh amps. I'll let you know what I hear. Of course, your ears and mine will differ in terms of taste in timbre, but clean and accurately reproduced music is a great standard for judging.

Hows this for clean?

MCC602TM
300 watts x 2, 20-20kHz, (4/2/1) ohms, 0.005%THD
Bridged Mono: 600 Watts (1/2/4 ohms), 20-20kHz, 0.005%THD

Many of their amps are stable to 1 ohm. I've had their speakers in the past (6x9 comps) and they were incredible on my ears.

As far as price range, about the average "good amp" dollar per watt would be nice, but of course would be willing to fork over more for an extraordinary powerhouse. Nothing too outrageous because I know they get rediculous sometimes in pricing!!
Subwoofer-wise I'm not too worried about yet, but my mids and highs are all going to run at 4 ohm. I bi-amp my components so I need something with 75 x 2 RMS for the tweets and 150-200 x 2 RMS for my mids.

Thanks!!

Yeah it is....but I'm hoping the price won't be fool-hearty. Like you, I'm into great stuff, but the pricetag shouldn't make me bust out laughing.

One of the Audiobahn amps I'm using the A1504DP

150 watts x 4 channels
True Digital Circuitry
Multi-Stranded Power Supply Toroids
Double-Sided Glass Epoxy Circuit Board
THD: 0.05%
S/N Ratio: >100dB (+/- 1dB)
Frequency Response: 10Hz-20kHz
Variable High-Pass/Low-pass Crossover: 50Hz To 250Hz
Variable Bass Boost: 0 - 12dB
Optional Digital Volt Meter (ADM100T)
Throughput RCA Connections
4-way Protection Circuitry: Thermal, Short Circuit, Overload, and DC Offset
Dual Cooling Fans

Pretty nice specs without breaking the bank.

I loved how clean my Xtant was. Bought it 4 yrs ago. Think it was like 4x75.
It reproduced highs and mids very well without much coloration, but that amp had NOOOO guts in terms of power at all. It didn't hold a candle to any of my PPI's (old school)

Anyone remember Hifonics from the late 80's? They were super clean and had TONS of power.

I run four Orion 250 HCCA's in my Suburban, two feed a set of Orion 2NT 15" DVC subs... pound...pound...pound... Wicked.

I have an Xtant 603 amp in the Vette, using Orion XTR 6.5 components up front, and a Kicker S10L7 sub in the back. (Infinity rears off the head unit... but I don't know why. )

The Xtant sounds really good, and I would buy Xtant again in a second.

As for the system in the Vette, I need (want) more sound. I bought a set of USD Waveguides for the front, and need to buy a set of 8" mids to set them off properly. (I say mids... I mean more like a midwoofer... 60 hz to 800 hz) More to come...

I am also using Xtant amps. I have a 604 running my Focals and a 302 running my Earthquake subs. Absolutely love the versatility of these amps and the clean, clean sound. I would buy Xtant again.

You should also look at McIntosh and Brax amps

Do I???? LOL A friend had a "small" 50x2 if I remember right running a pair of Kicker 15" subs (the ones with the gold "kicker" across the dustcap) in a old Bronco. WOW, that thing hit HARD, and for 15s were very tight and punchy! Great amps!!

I had the Odin or Zeus... I forget which, but it was like 75x2 I think and after surviving a car fire from my buddy's K5 Blazer, I bought it from him and used it for 6 years in 2 or 3 of my cars and then gave it to my brother to put in his old '87 Regal. It's still in the trunk and driving an old pair of McIntosh 6x9 comps!
That beyotch is STILL pushing music after nearly 20 years!

It may not be the cleanest amp now, but it still rocks and has NEVER overheated, blown a fuse or been serviced.

I've got a ARC 2050cxl powering my A/D/S components Very happy with it. I'm looking into the 4150xxk, but can't find a website or dealer to check it out.

Car Audio and Electronics just did a amp comparision. They set it up extremely well, all with set (equal) output. The funny thing is, they all did extremely well (except when they tried a class D as full range, it was worse than the ABs) and the price ranged from a couple of $100 to over $3000 Moral of the story, in a car's harsh and noisey enviroment, the extra money might not be worth it. In a quite home, that is a different story.
