Default Convertible Antenna on Coupe?

Have any of you guys installed an antenna on a coupe with the window antenna to get better reception? If so, have any tips on how to do it? Or, any ways to improve the reception with the standard setup? Thanks

This is something I want to know, too. I installled I high end Clarion radio and I have 0 AM reception which I would like to have for drive time. The FM is ok, but not great.

I have the Clarion DRZ9255 with the external power supply. I've also installed JR Audio TRX 650's in the back with VRX 650 components in the front, two Alpine amps, JL Stealthbox and DH Labs wire. The systems sounds great, but it's maddening not to have AM. Other memebrs have indicated that the rear antenna is for AM, so my assumption is that something has failed in the antenna connection from the back. My thinking was a long the same lines as yours concerning installing the vert or Z06 antenna, which I don't think looks bad at all and should improve reception.

I have the DRZ9255, JL 500/5 amp, and the same JL speakers you do. You are exactly right, the sould is tremendous, picks up little nuances of sound from cd's on tracks that I have listened to for years and never heard before. Makes "old" music "new music" . We need to figure out the AM reception deal, My installer said it sounds to him that the antenna is connected but is not "powering up"? Not sure what that means. He has not physically looked at it yet. I have not taken it back. You?

I did everything myself after a disasterous experience at Circuit City where my son works and convinced me that their installers were top notch. But not so! I spent the better part of two months cleaning up after them a doing everything the right way. After a lot of sweat and swearing, I now know I have a good install and I know how the car is put together. With the help of Forum members, I solved little problems like getting the aftermarket radio to work on the accessory circuit. The only thing I can't get is the AM. I don't get the 'powering up' idea with the antenna, but if you get any insights let me know. I would greatly appreciate it - rest assured I'll do the same! Cheers.

Have XM in my Yukon, it's Ok but the commercials get to be too much and I seem to be constantly changing the channels ont he music. I didn't want it bad enough to even put in my car doing the big swap out. But, each to his own. Want AM/FM for some local stuff time to time.

I know what you mean about getting anyone to do good work. I have spent the whole weekend re-doing my boat after having it "Professionally Detailed". What a joke. I have done three applications of cleaner polish and then two coats of protectant/wax to get the shine back and the swirl marks off. Cretins.

Update on your question about the antenna: I was at Carlisle over the weekend and I saw a C5 coupe with the mast antenna installed in the vert location. It certainly looked good, and I'll bet he's getting better reception than you or I are!

I bet it did. I have not taken it back yet to check it out. That might be the best solution. I have a new ECM to install with a tune on it from Westers. When I unhook the battery to get the other computer out, I bet I am going to lose all the Time Alignment settings on the Clarion won't I ?

You very well might. I'm facing the same thing as I am changing my battery this weekend! Seems like we are travelling a parallel path. Let me know how the ECM works out.
