Definitely gonna need more space. It is all fiberglass right now except for the rings. What you see on the left side of the picture is what I have. The right half is what I need to add for more air space. Is it ok to have a small channel that opens to a bigger area? This is pretty much my only option with my setup (besides getting a sub that uses less space which I don't want to do). Thanks for your help!

Thanks EatRice. I may not end up having to do it. I will take a new volume measurement with a new top portion design that is larger. If needed, I can always cut a new passageway in the fiberglass to expand it.
I guess I took on one helluva project for my first fiberglassing project ever. It's fun though!
I built a box that is pretty much half inside the storage bin, the other half, above the storage bin. It was easier to fit the sub that way.
The key is volume... how you get it really doesn't matter.
Since this is fibreglass, I would consider hitting it with one of those brush on rhino lining sealing compounds. It will help deaden the resonance of the fibreglass.
