What is the best antenna and the best mounting method for the antenna for a "Roady" XM system in a coupe?
c2, c3, c4, c5 - ??? i mounted my roady2 antenna on my 85 in the center of the, i guess you'd call it, the b-pillar halo - between the removal top and the hatch glass. i used some 3m trim mounting tape. i ran the wire under the weather stripping, and fed it to the dash. very few dropouts.

I put mine behind the tail lights on the bumper. I had it on the window and was getting lots of drop outs but when i moved it they stoped. I live in a small town so i dont have the tess.antennas just the sat.
Hey guys I am confused here. When people say they mount their XM antenna "inside" the rear bumper, is this literally inside the fiberglass rear? Does the fiberglass not block out the satellite signal?
Also if this is the case, could I get away with mounting an aftermarket GPS antenna in the same place?
Actually, I have my antenna mounted to the underside of the steel rib by the roof hatch. It's upside down, magnetically attached, and inside the plastic trim panel. It seemed to work fine in the area where I live, but on a trip to New Hampshire from Connecticut, it dropped out as I got into central Massachusetts, and just kept getting worse. The roads are tree lined on both sides in many areas, but usually clear overhead.

Don't know about a GPS but xm will go through fiberglass mine is under the trunk lid with two sided tape and it never drops out. It will even play while in the garage.
I mounted mine in the gutter thats around the trunk seal. The signal goes thru fiberglass with no problem. Find the smallest antenna you can find to do this and attach it with double sided tape.
I took the magnetic antenna that came with my Roady and installed in on the dash using sticky tape, down in the lower left side by the A pillar. It worked okay, but I experienced some drop outs. I heard about the rear location, and decided to give it a try.
To do this, you just take out the two phillips head screws that hold in each of your tail lights, and look down through the openings. (Use a flashlight, you may need it.) I took both right tail lights out so I could see/work in that area, but you may onlt need to remove one.
If you look down through the tail light openings, you will see the frame and rear bumper area. I installed my magnetic antenna there, routed the wire through the cab and back to the Roady.
Performance is... well... different. The areas I experienced drop out in don't give me problems any more... but new problem areas have sprung up. Maybe I have an older (read: crappy) antenna?!?! If I get some free time, I'm going to tear out the B-pillar and look for a spot up there, or try a different antenna. Regards.
