The FM reception seems to be pretty terrible on the AVIC hu's for some reason...I guess they want you to get XM. I wouldn't worry about the antenna wire very much. I'm thinking about selling my N2 and putting in a D1, the flipout screen looks cool sometimes but it blocks the air vent (and its 100+ here in the summer so I need that vent) and the single cd slot is completely annoying me. Oh well, very nice job on the install

honestly todays hu should have no excuse for reception, the radio is only as good as the install. be sure to check everything possible. a double din looks much better in a c5 versus a flip out single din, i can agree with you there.

there are so many tricks around fm reception that it doesn't matter the type of vehicle something is in, it's very true that the hu could be malfunctioning or something is short of a problem but it's also highly unlikely. sorry to hear you are having a problem, hopefully you can get it fixed. these hu's are too expensive to have a problem with reception.

Bill --

Very, very sweet install. Nice job! I'm about to do the same thing... can you offer up any advice on wiring the speed sensor? That's the one aspect of the D1 that never seems to get much coverage.

Thanks!

Here is what I found from Directed Electronics (they make Viper Alarms).

"CHEVROLET, CORVETTE, 2004, Speed Sense

dk. green/white cluster or PCM, red plug, pin 50

The PCM is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Remove the right front tire and remove the access panel in the inner fender to access the PCM."

Should be the same for all C5's.... Hope this helps...

This is going to be a winter project for me... I want to take my time, do up a custom center console right (take my time with all the cutting, bonding, sanding and painting) and hopefull have it all put back together in early spring. Don't be surprised if I pop up with more questions over the next few months...

well, i had climate controls relocated to the bottom storage space below and installed the alpine flip out unit in its place.

The vents are only halfway blocked by the screen (bad angle in photo) when its fully open and i can also 'tilt' the monitor forward.
i also get to keep my...ahem, cassette player too.

Obviously, this is not a corvette installation, but ya get the idea, i hope.

Here is another option on the speed sensor wire

After some, disassemble of the dash of course with the service Manual in hand! I found the right green/white wire. It goes to the plug on the back of the instrument cluster. Actually there are two green/whites, one is for the Oil Temp the other is the speed sensor wire.

After unplugging the connector from the cluster you will find two green/white stripe wires, you will want the Green/white (A7-circuit 817) with a Tan/white (A6-circuit 33) above it and a black (A8-circuit 150 ) below it..The other green/white (A10-circuit 357) oil temp has a blank and a gray on each side.

pin..wire
A5 Blank….
A6…Tan/White
A7 Speed Sensor…Green/White
A8…Black
A9 Blank
A10 Oil Temp…Green/White
A11…Gray

http://www.vetteessentials.com/inst...ezel_howto.html

Step 9c shows the plug...I did not have to remove the cluster to reach it just pull it forward..

Thanks, We Gone. that might be easier than running a wire thru the firewall.
