I never checked what kind of fuse they used going to my amp. Not good. I went to start the car and the battery was dead. Found the 30 amp fuse and its holder melted. I can't believe they put in a 30 amp, my jeep runs a 60 amp with almost the same setup. This was powering a Sony explode 5 channel. I've never seen a fuse melt like this. Glad it didn't melt the car. Replaced it with a 60 amp in a much better holder, for $12.00. The moral of the story. If you didn't do the work, check everything out. Still don't know how this happened with the car off. Something must have stayed on and powered up the amp, just not sure what.
That is weird the fuse melted with the car off, but yes, if the fuse is underrated and the draw is just not that high over the rating, the fuse will heat up slowly and melt the fuse holder before the fuse gives up it's ghost. The fuse did this when you were jamming though, not when the car was off. Even if the amp was on, the draw would be less than an amp, not enough to hurt a 30 amp fuse. I think you just happened to find it when the battery was dead and you popped the hood. My guess, something in your new stereo is not turning off when the car does. Over time, that slight draw will kill a battery. Look that install over good
Now that I think of it, the passenger door was slightly open when I got to the car. I pop the faceplate of the HU out when I shut the car off, but not completely, just pop it. I wonder if this kept the amp on and the interior light on.
