I just purchased my 97 corvette 2 weeks ago. The only complaint I have it that I get a lot of static coming through the HU even on stations that are usually pretty good in my other cars. It looks like the atenna is part of the front glass windshield but I have no idea. Is there something that will get rid of this static and pull in better reception?
I'm not sure how it works, but some of them use a band of the radio to transmit and receive. I'd ask somebody that knows more than me about it. But mine (6 disc) turns off with a switch. Helps the reception a lot!
Yes, these type of changers are FM modulated which means that it sends out a small radio wave (87.7 or whatever it is programed for) that reaches your stereo and then plays as if it were a radio station. However, the factory 12 disk is not FM modulated, it is a direct connect to the stereo HU I believe...
Yes, the factory 12-disc is directly hooked into the head unit via it's own cable, no FM involved.
An FM modulator will affect reception. The reason is because you are putting a adaptor(couldn't think of the exact term :o ) between the antenna wire and the head unit's FM input.
I hope EatRice or ScottFX sees this thread. I believe they both worked on improving the reception in a C5 last year and can give us both ideas
