A little over 2 weeks ago I purchased my first Corvette. I have wanted one since I was 16 years old and I am 54 now. I looked around some before I found my dream car. It is a 2005 vert in Velocity Yellow with all the extras on it that I wanted except navigation. I thought it would be OK but since I bought it I have realized that I would really like to have the navigation. I now have the stereo with the 6 CD changer. It is pretty good but I very seldom listen to CD's. I love satellite radio and I usually listen to it. Has anyone ever purchased the factory navigation for their C6? Would my dealer install the unit if I bought it thru them? Or would I need to take it to a stereo shop? Would I be better off trying to find an after-market unit that would fit without too much modification? I really do not know where to begin with this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Factory is best. The factory NAV looks great and well worth the price. There are many instances on other vehicles where a new or used factory unit can be purchased and installed with little or no major modifications. My wife has a Cadillac CTS. I was able to purchase a used 2005 Cadillac CTS factory Nav unit off eBay. All that was required to install was to remove four screws and the old radio. Tap into the VSS wire on the instrument cluster, add the factory GPS antenna. Complete "plug and play". Total cost was around $1500.00 to include Nav software. Much cheaper than original factory. I'm new to this forum and not sure what's require to retrofit the factory NAVon a new C6. There are many factory NAV units listed on eBay. Again, not sure about the availability for the C6. One note, not only is the NAV great to have and fun to use, it provides a wonderful radio and information screen display. There are other "aftermarket" radios (Pioneer AVIC-N2 and AVIC-D1). I would exhaust all efforts to obtain the factory unit first. Good luck!

Hi: I have a 99 Supercharged Fixed Roof Hardtop, I would like to keep my factory Bose speaker system and not bother to switch out to newer speakers. Will your unit plug directly into my factory plugs? I would do the install myself, I'm very familiar with removing the dash as I installed a factory 12 disc CD changer that by the way works terrible so I will remove it. Also what do you do to bypass the lock to allow the passenger or me when I'm in the desert, watch the DVD player?
Are you aware that the nav/radio is a VIN restricted item? Seems they dont want people to avoid getting the highly profitable 1SB and just installing the nav after the car is sold. You didnt mention it specifically but the XM is also VIN restricted. I have the nav and tried to get the XM to add after the fact so I could place the antenaa where I wanted it rather than on the hoop. They wouldnt sell it to me. They said they can only sell it to someone with a car that had it installed OEM and you have to trade your old defective one over at the time of purchase. If you figure out how to get around it then post it up, I am still wanting Sat radio.

Yep, I did. Im talking about going down to the dealership and ordering the nav or xm. I got the impression this was the op's intent. Folks have done this via ebay or junkyard to get the parts but I dont recall the specifics as far as what was required. Your install is pretty cool and I have been considering it.

Yes, that was my intent but it seems impossible. Can anyone that has purchased one from ebay or a junkyard and installed it in a C6 please let me know how difficult the install was?
-1-: Why do you say factory is best? have you compared them to aftermarket nav systems? I'm just curious to what warrants your claim for it being the best.
Factory is BEST as far as appearance and integration with other systems on the vehicle. Trying to retrofit an aftermarket system is a hassle just to make it look right. With the C6, the NAV, XM radio, and HUD are all integrated. I would prefer a "factory system" just for these reasons. I'm sure, some of the newer aftermarket Radio/NAVs have some nicer, and maybe more advanced features. I have a Pioneer AVIC-D1 in a Mazda6. It's a great radio/NAV with many features and integrated XM. With this car, there is no current factory NAV, so aftermarket is the only way to go. I installed a used factory radio/NAV in my wife's CTS. This was a remarkably easy retrofit of a factory system. It couldn't have been easier. I would prefer the factory system in this case to "any" aftermarket system. Appearance to me is very important. These are my reason for stating "factory is best". Just one persons opinion.
