I Have an Alpine 9813 with pioneer 6x9's in boxes in the back with infinity 4x6's in the dash. The problem i am having is that i can not find a setting with any midbass.
I have 2 12" subs in a ported box and they have tons of bass, but i need more midbass. Right now there is way too much treble, even when i adjust the EQ to have -10 for 10k, 3.2k and 1.0k.
The setting is also set fo 2 way right now and not to 3 way from the underneath of the deck. The crossover settings are 100 at 3 for low, 125 at 4 for rear and 160 at 3 for front. I can notice a difference on the front speakers if i go to full range but not on the rear speakers.
Does any1 have any suggestions as to wat i can do to increase the midbass in my system?
What is powering your 4 non sub speakers? If it is being run from deck power you will struggle to get much "quality" mid bass from your current speaker sizes from deck power. It has been my experience in the 4 systems I have built in my personal cars and the dozens that i have tuned that midbass is the single most difficult thing to add to ANY car stereo system regardless of whether it is a $300 system or a $3000 system. I believe it has a lot to do with general car harmonics and the frequencies that are encountered while driving (road/exhaust noise etc and resonances)
I believe what may be happening to your system now is that you have your crossover points a bit low on your subs (guessing you have them at about 80hz and down) and your front speakers running at about 120. 80-120 hz is where most cars struggle in general especially in the front (with subs in the rear). You are asking a lot from a 4x6 speaker to play those frequencies .. even with amp power IMO. Many high end stereo systems will go with a 3 way setup comprised of a 6.5 to 8" midbass driver coupled with a 3.5 - 6.5" mid and tweet combination in order to have a dedicated speaker playing the 60ish - 500hz frequencies without distortion.
I have a 9815 in my WRX and I have it in 2 way mode playing the 12" DVC from 80hz and down and I have my Focal Polykev 6.5's playing 80hz and up. I still lack midbass in that car and I feel it is mainly due to a lack of overlap in the system and the 6.5's really don't like to play below that.
Another thing that helps with midbass in general is to "dynamat" or sound deaden your doors. Can help a lot in some instances.
Ok, but what about how there is too much treble? I get used to it after a while but wen other ppl get in my car they cant handle it cuz they say there is too much of it and that it hurts their ears.
I am guessing that it is crossover related. IE maybe both your 4x6's and your 6x9's are only playing from your high pass crossover point and up and that crossover point is quite high .. maybe say 3k? Play a male voice like Johnny Cash or some other deep voiced male from a song you know well to see if your other speakers are playing in the correct range. I personally would start with a removal of the RCA's to the bass amp and a fade of the signal to either a front or rear set of speakers (or individually if you wish) and start checking out how they sound. I would probably go back and check my crossover points on my deck as well. Not the eq settings the actual crossover settings. (don't mean to be an A$$ not sure how versed you are). Also still not sure what is powering those speakers .. if it is an amp it could be as simple as a mis-chosen button on the built in high/low pass filters on the amp that is causing your problems.
O sorry forgot to mention that the speakers are running off of the deck power. I tried listening individually to the speakers while i was fiddling with the crossover points. I turned off teh subs and turned the volume level of the rear speakers all teh way down.
I noticed that i was getting distortion from the front speakers in full range and at 160 at teh first level. at teh second level of 160 the distortion went away.
For the rear speakers no matter what setting i used( full range, 200, 25) it all sounded the same to me.
