My car is an '02 Z06, I've had this unit hooked up for a while now and never hooked up the illumination wire since I couldn't find it on the harness. It's getting annoying now not being able to see the buttons at night not to mention how bright the screen is, since it doesn't dim due to the wire not being hooked up.
After a long failure in searching, does anybody know where I can hook this wire to? I figure maybe I can tap it off of the headlight "on" wire out of the gauge cluster but have no clue which one it is. Any help is appreciated.

You say you cannot find the illumination wire on the harness? The factory plug, or the aftermarket wiring harness adapter? Usually, the aftermarket wiring harness adapter has an illumination wire in it(orange wire), but if it doesn't, use a voltmeter on 12VDC, and test for a wire that is at ground when the lights are off, and at 12V when the lights are on.
The factory illumination wire at the headlight switch is a brown wire that reads 12V when the parking lights are turned on. If you can't find the illumination wire in the radio harness, use this wire.

Thanks guys for the quick reply, I'll give this a try. For some reason, there's no illumination wire in the factory harness. When I plugged in the aftermarket harness to the factory connector, I noticed the illumination wire in the aftermarket harness didn't have a connection coming into it from the factory side. So I just skipped it at the time. Luckily I still have the interior gutted for suede work and LED mods so this shouldn't be too painful.

I had the same problem with my C6, ran a wire to the passenger side tail light. Problem solved.
