Default Radar Detector

Alright guys, I relize this topic has probally been beat into the ground but I am going to ask it anyways, sorry. I would like to know what is the best radar detector to get for my 03 Z06. I live in Virginia so they are illegal, so I would really like to have one that you cannot see through the window because a police officer might pull me over if he saw it. So, I need one that is concealed, but I do not want to have to do any serious wiring. I would prefably like to have one that can be concealed but still pluged into the cigaratte lighter....I dont know if this is possible or not... But if it does have to be wired up could someone tell me how hard it would be and what it required.......or even if someone had detailed pictures of the install or knew of a website that did. Thanks a lot, Jason.

Thanks for the info, But do you all think if I had a radar detector stuck on my windshield and a police officer here in Virginia saw me he would pull me over or give me a ticket??? I also have hurd that police have a thing where they can tell if you have a radar detector or not?? Is this true or false?? And does the V1 protect against this because I have hurd many good things about this detector. Oh also, I have hurd that if a police officer turns his radar gun off then your detector is useless...this seems reasonable.........but does the radar detector pick up any frequencies even if the radar gun of the cops is off??? I know basically nothing about radar detectors so suggestions are greatly appreciated...Thanks, Jason

I have the Bel 975R remote unit installed where the ash tray goes. I can flip the lid down while driving through VA and the troopers are none the wiser even if they look into my car. The radar sensor is inside the front bumper and the laser sensor is on the front of my rear view mirror, both out of sight from prying eyes.

I installed it myself, wasn't really hard to do. I used the switched accessory wire in the passenger footwell to power it so it comes on and goes off by itself when I start the car. The plastic around the ash tray had to be slightly modified, but I could put the tray back in if I ever had a reason to (if anyone trys to smoke in my C5 they get pushed out at full speed).

Cops can detect your detector with "VG2", but most every quality detector on the market today has "anti-VG2", so that isn't really a problem any more.

If the cop has "instant on" radar, then your detector pretty much just tells you that you were just hit (assuming that you're the one the cop was aiming for). It doesn't make the detector useless, there's still a good chance that you can pick up the radar when he's shooting at someone else and be warned before you get to the trap.

FWIW, I drive through VA several times a year, and it seems to me that most of the troopers on the interstates there just leave their radar on constantly a lot more than troopers in other states. That's probably due to detectors being illegal, so they don't have to be as sneaky as cops in other states.

Yes...so be discreet.

True, but as already stated above almost all detectors will be "hidden" from a VG2 detector (old technology) but a Spectre will detect all radar detectors except the "new" Bel which I gave you the info on above.

A V1 is also invisible to a VG2, but not a Spectre.

No.

Try to find out if Virginia uses VG2's or Spectre, read through this radar website and see what you can find out. Good luck finding the right detector.
