I'm taking a road trip this morning to Utah, to attend my Grandfather's funeral. I need to pick a radar detector befor I leave and I'm not sure which one to get or what to look for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
This one will get the brand debate going....
i'll call it a tie ...
Valentine One is the winner but about $100 more than the Escort 8500 X50.... many opt for the X50 because of the price difference.
Both are great units, I own both... I prefer the V 1.
You won't get one in time for your trip but I absolutely love my Valentine One. I've had it for almost a year now and it's never failed me. The Escort would be my close second choice.

Leave a little earlier, set your cruise control 7-8 over and you'll arrive sooner than if you are captured. You can only go so fast before the "cell-phone police" turn you in anyway. The police can also be sneaky, and if there is a radar detector in sight, you won't get a warning ticket. There are no fool-proof detectors out there, but they can give you a false sense of confidence. My personal experience anyway. Don't know anything about the "latest & greatest" though.

Valentine One in my car, but you can't go wrong with either one.

p.s. Very sorry to hear about your grandfather.
p.s.s. Very nice gesture Dave
Well, I will put in one for the Escort I own one and it has saved me some tickets,,, I'm not sure if the Badge Trooper will give out warnings,, just remember you driving a Cop-Magnet,,, I mean these Vettes look fast if they are sitting still... Be careful....
I love my escort 8500....this is almost like the which exhaust threads that pop up every so often. Either way, escort or valentine one, you cant go wrong.... Sorry to hear about your loss! Drive safe!

Yes you will. Drop by Best Buy and pick up an 8500 x50.
Does best buy carry them????????? If so, I need to cancel my online order so I can go get it today! The web site search reveals nothing.
Nope I just made it up for the hell of it.
Yes, they do. Go to a store and check it out first though. Initially a couple years ago BestBuy stopped carrying Escort products, so I was forced to buy my first 8500 online. The next year (about 8 mos. ago) I needed another detector for my car. Went to Best Buy and they were carrying Escort again. Have a look or call. Hopefully they havent stopped again in the last 8 mos.

110% I have the Escort 8500/50..got clocked doing 78 in a 65. Officer asked for reg and insurance as he shined hi flash light on my (unplug detector). Asked for DL, then said "be right back, going to run your license". Returned with the ticket to be signed. Perhaps no radar detector and going just 5 to 7 miles over the limit I may have gotten a warning. Who knows. Good luck..condolence to you about your grandfather..

Yep, contacted them and went down there to pick it up in person. Strange that the web site doesnt list it.
BUT, if you HAVE to have it... get it overnighted for about the same price that you'll pay at Best Buy ($299 + tax). The Holiday shoppers right now are almost intolerable. In Austin anyway.

And if you know a best buy employee, have them buy it for you. Employee discount gets it for about 180 plus tax.
Thanks for the reply's and condolences. The funeral was nice, 21 gun salute, taps, etc... g-pa fought in WWII. I didn't have time to pick up a real radar dect. so when I was at the local auto parts store getting a can of "seal and air" for the road, I bought the "best" dect. they had. It's made by Cobra and is a real pile. This thing must pick up signals from every microwave within 100 miles. The non-stop beeping, kept me on edge and made me spill my coffe more than once. It did seem to work a few times finding hwy patrol under over passes, and the grazing cattle that work under cover with their radar's. There are sure a lot of them between Ca and Beaver, Ut. I had one of Utah's finest pull me over for a chat before I hit Beaver. He said he had me on radar at 94 mph, funny how my nice Cobra dect. didn't even make a peep. Lucky for me he was a local and knew my g-pa. He told me to keep it around 80 and give my best the the family. That Cobra will be going back for a full refund this morning.
