ok, well im now ready to apply the sludge as its called, to my D1 mod. my question to who have used this is i have drilled out some shavings from a black drainage pipe and just put enough acetone in to cover the chips or shavings,,, now how long will i have to wait?? the 2 parts are now sitting about 4 hours and NOTHING no melting as it was of the 2 parts,, am i missing something? also will this sludge be easy to sand down after set up . Well any help on this would be great ,, Thanx. and
wait a day or so. you can speed up the process by shaking up the mixture from time to time an addding more acetone and then letting the extra solvent evaporate to thicken it a bit.
sanding is pretty easy. you may notice some air pockets but you can cover those up with some really thinned out sludge and let that dry for a day or so. this will yeild the densest 'weld'
the one thing to keep in mind, unlike bondo this stuff take a bit longer to work with. it's not something you can apply and then sand within hours.
another thing you can actually buy if you want to get started while it's setting up is abs cement from your local hardware store. It's basically the same thing as you're making just a lot thinner. it can be used to assemble the pieces and then your sludge will be used as a filler.
legal disclaimer...i've never done it this way, but i have used the abs cement for glueing abs pipe and in theory it should work.

I've only ever used the ABS cement as my sludge. It works well and dries quickly.
