Default 06Z06-Valentine 1

Got my new Z06 from kerbeck(MSRP)and girlfriend got me a Valentine 1 radar detector...any ideas on locating a switched wire in the rear view mirror( the mirror does have compass and pass. airbag on/off indicator)so I don't have to have the coiled power wire running down the dash to cig. lighter? Any ideas or info would be appreciated.

I use a small bungy cord to secure the V1 to the speaked grill, the power cord hides between the windshield and dash to the fuse panel in the passenger foot well This takes about 5 min to do.. It connects to the heated seat fuse and comes on with the ign. I have used this method for 4 years in my C5 and 1 year in the C6 with NO loss of performance

..oops, forgot the picture

.... as to the V1 attached to the speaker grill, I would think it may vibrate when playing the stereo and the magnet in the speaker may effect V1 working properly. I do believe the higher the radar is mounted, the better it works

A thin piece of foam under the V1 keeps it from moving around, magnet has no effect. We are only talking 16 to 18 in. I have tested it extensively and it makes NO difference in performance. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.....

Where to mount

Valentine One works best when mounted high in the
windshield, and toward the center between the windshield
pillars. Use your choice of windshield or visor mounts.

• When properly mounted, the front antenna will look
forward through the glass. It must have an unobstructed
view. Don’t put it behind the parked windshield wipers,
or directly behind an in-glass antenna. Don’t position it
so that it "looks" into the rearview mirror.

• The rear antenna will look rearward, between
passengers and out the rear glass. It, too, must have an
unobstructed view.

Detector performance is enhanced by a high mounting
position. Two reasons. For radar, a longer sight line to
the horizon always helps. For laser, moving away from
the hood and its sun reflections helps a lot.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Windshield heaters such as Ford’s
InstaClear® block radar from passing through the glass (look
for a brown tint). So do solar barrier windshields of the type
used on GM Venture-Montana-Silhouette-Trans Sport
minivans and on some imported luxury sedans (look for a
reddish or copper tint). Same for mirrored sun screens.
Detector performance will be greatly reduced when V1 is
mounted behind such metallic films.
SAFETY WARNING: Because a detector on a windshield
mount or visor mount is not permanently attached to the
car, it could come loose in a crash, possible causing injury.
Also, a passenger may move forward on impact and contact
the detector. Keep these possibilities in mind when you
mount your Valentine One.

however laser performance is enhanced when the device is mounted lower it is a narrow beam and the leo will aim for the front plate or headlights. Radar is a more diffuse beam and will be picked up in the lower setting check out some of the radar test pages rather then the manufacturer

Default Easy Installation without mounting brackets

I picked this up from another CF member and it works GREAT!

Place "Sticky Pad" on the bottom of your radar detector then simply set the detector on top of the speaker grill. The Sticky Pad keeps the detector from sliding and there are no braclets or anything else needed.

Note: I used this method on a Whistler and when the unit was placed on top of the speaker grill the unit displayed a "distort" message. Seems as if the magnet affected the unit. The detector can be moved away from the speaker on the dash however the unit was prone to sliding.

I then changed detectors (purchased a Passport 8500 x50) without any problems! Simply set on top of the grill and plug in! Does not slide and is easy to remove with no indicator to potential thiefs that there is a detector.

The RADAR detector part of your V1 may work a little better if it has a clear line of sight front and rear, but that's not completely necessary. In fact, it will do a reasonable job in a plastic center console, but the arrows will be confused. Back in my lawless days, I had one mounted on the back side of the angled trunk divider in a '98 Camaro. Worked fairly well.

Higher mounting is better for the radar part, not so good for the laser part. Some extensive testing showed that the difference between dash-mounted and windshield-mounted would probably not be noticable.

I've reformed now...

I just installed my V1 in my C6 ZO6. I ordered a Rear View Mirror mounting bracket for the Valentine One from the Corvette Forum Store (product No. X-1657 @ $37.95).

Plugged an “Mini Add-A-Circuit” (mfg. by Littelfuse, Inc. & available at Auto Zone @ $6.99) into the Wiper Sensor fuse located under the passenger side footboard (note: all of the switched fuses are located under a black 2”x 4” plastic cover on the upper right side of the fuse panel).

I ran the black telephone cable supplied with the V1 behind the passenger side “A” pillar molding and windshield trim to the rearview mirror. There is approximately 3” of black telephone cable exposed from the windshield to the mirror.

I think that this is the perfect location, if you mount the V1 on the dash there is interference from the windshield wipers. I have never had much luck with the suction cup mounts not crashing to the dash. Besides, the V1 has 2 antennas which detect both front & rear radar and the mirror location provides a nice high unobstructed position for maximum range distance for both the front and rear antennas.

The actual installation only took about 20 min.; however, it probably took me an hour to find the switched fuses!

With the bucks that your V1 will save you in speeding tickets, you’ll be able to afford a new “Z” in no time at all!

“Save the Wave”!
