avic d1 unit with a soundgate interface, all looks right, but guess not. i have all that mids and tweets running and even the rear sub and amp but no door subs. where should i check for problems is there a common mistake maybe with just one wire i installed wrong?? i have played with the gain on the new interface and nothing. hoping that was my problem but no luck there, so close but yet so far one thing i do see is that the existing harness from the factory has 3 plugs that came out of the bose head unit and the soundgate unit only have plugs for 2 of the 3 is this 3rd plug not needed???. also next step will be to install the nav. antenna, where would be the best place to install this and not be seen in a vert.at this time the vert can not move do to mod feaver so i will have to install this antenna without a test run for recepation!!.. I will say this this is a unit, but this door sub thing has go me so once again i will ask for you help, thanx to all who have and will help me out Chris.
It sounds like your door speakers aren't getting power or aren't grounded... did you move the wire in the soundgate harness back to the original position? Also, I assume you've checked all your wiring connections to make sure nothing came loose?
As for the GPS antenna, I moujnted mine on the steel bar inside the rear bumper. Just pop off one of the taillights to get access. It works like a charm -- I've had zero problems with reception. I was under there to connect the reverse wire, too, so if you still need to do that, get both done while you're in there. (actually, I took off the whole license plate mouning to get to the back-up wire -- it was very easy).
Good luck with the speaker issue. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some ideas.
i called soundgate on this and they said something about a relay?( not enough volts to get it going) or maybe the black gain box might be shot?? but i also told them the batt. in the vert is low due not in use for over 2 months of lack of use.( Hum just lots of mods...LOL) im now charging it up and maybe i will fix this thing and get the relay going??? before it gets me, thanx for you help and advice on the ant. mount i will install there due to having every thing open, still waiting for the rear camera to install into this unit also hope that runs smoother,,Thanx again for your help. will post my results of this . And i thought modding the dash to fit this unit was the hard part!!! ,, Save the wave......... Chris
i had a similar problem. one question-- does the radio sound fine? and is it when ya use the cd player that you got no bass? i had the same problem. its a quick and easy fix, let me know. Thanx!
well as of right now i do not have antenna adaptor installed into this unit so all im playing is the cd's,,but i will listen to all you have to say because i just charged the batt. for allmost 2 hours and still nothing as far as the subs go,but i will say that the front mids seem to be working very hard( what ever that could be) and for what ever its worth i do hear a relay kick on when i turn the key to ACC.so i ask... what now.. somthing is up..maybe a defect on soundgats part? who knows... and im all ears,, thanx..
Make sure you've hooked up the remote wire in the harness, this will ensure the head unit tells the factory amp to turn on.
If the subs are on the front channel, make sure you aren't using the HPF for the front speakers. You may be cutting out the bass via the head unit. Take a look at those things and see.
i have used the remote wire to set up the rear subs & amp, that is working fine. i have messed around with what i think are all the settings on the head unit,, the one thing i found out tonight was out of the 2 plugs from the soundgate harness that goes to the factory harness 2 plugs the smaller or thinner plug i unpluged it when unit was in use ( playing a CD) because its tied to the black gain box and nothing happend, in other words the system sounds the same with just the larger harness plug in use, so now im thinking this is a soundgate issue! i also reinstalled the factory head unit, and bingo, subs work just fine, so if someone might know whats going on please help otherwise im going to ask soundgate for another harness unit,,, just would like to say thanx for all your help so far........... Chris
Just to add a little more insight into the issue...
I had my system set up to play thru just the front speakers and the bass was fine. But when I tweaked the inital menu settings to get 4-channels, it kills the front Bose amps. Apparenly it's the subwoofer output setting that controls wheather the amps kick in (if you set the rears to "Full" in the initial settings pane, the system assumes that the subs are in the rear and doesn't send the signal to the bose amps to turn on).
I'm not sure if this helps your situation, but now it's bugging me... I think I may have to go back in to the wiring to see if I can figure out how to get the bose amps AND the rear speakers working. Grr...
i hooked up the remote wire to the rear sony amp and the rear subs work good, so should i try to send that same remote wire back to the bose subs if so how do i do that, I see what your saying about needing to turn them on because its another outside amp like my sony for the rear subs, not sure but might be on to something? like i said just not sure how to get the remote from avic wire back to the bose amps,,, Im all ears again.. Thanx Chris
Is there by chance any way you could scan/photograph the soundgate wiring chart and email it to me? I'm tearing my place up and I can't seem to find it. Thanks!
well as of right now i just spoke to the guys over at soundgate and they seem to think its the harness itself. turning on the unit i do get the relay to turn on behind the glove box but nothing at all from the gain box, they said i should hear something so they are overnighting a new one to me. In the meantime i need to pick up some base coat/clear coat and shoot the center console it is all set up for the avic now after about5 days of modding on it. Just would like to thank everybody who helped me out and i will keep you posted,,, Chris.
Keep us up to date on how the new harness works. I can definitly get the amps to work on my car, but only when the Avic is set to send the rear signals to an amp. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the fronts to work along with the rears. I have an email in to soundgate; hopefully I'll get a good answer from them.
Also, post pics of your bezel when you get it done. I'm working on mine right now, too.
I had the same issue. I had to move the black ground wire in the flat white soundgate plug to the opposite end of the plug. There are 2 versions of Corvette insructions. They sent me the one with the info and a pic of which wire to move. I'll scan and post in later tonight.
