Default Avic D1 or AVN 5435....

Which one and Why?? I'm not too worried about the cost, they are similar, the Avic doesn't play dvds, so the cost of an external changer offsets the price difference.

What do you guys think, likes/dislikes??

Thanks in Advance,
Ed

the avic is a gps unit that plays music, the eclipse is a head unit that also has gps.... what i'm trying to say is that the eclpse focuses more on sq. i believe that deck even has 8v outputs. If you want the best sound quality go with eclipse. plus i heard the gps software is really good too.

We use the AVN 5435 alot in Vettes ..

This seems to be the better sounding of the Dbl DINs out there-

The 8v output makes it a better unit - the DVD's can be played while in motion - the NAV feature is good ..

We are an Eclipse Dealer- have sold alot on this forum - Lots of positive feedback -

I see you Scott_fx! I tend to agree with your quote Eclipse the HU with a gpr, Pioneer, although capable, is a gps with a HU.

I purchased the 5435 from techguy a couple of months ago. Don't be afraid to make the purchase. I'd show you a pic but I haven't installed it yet. I want to install my go fast mods first to get some track times before I put all the extra weight in the car. I should be able to get back on this install sometime in February. I've already done the sound dampening and installed all the wiring. A new motor and twins got in the way.

I bought the Avic. I have always had pioneer and have been happy so I stuck with what I am used to. It wasn't worth the extra 400 to me to get the Eclipse.

And I like XM much better than Sirius. I will let everyone know how it turns out and post pics of my install in a few weeks.

Do these two units have a remote unit also ? Or just the 2-din head ? If a remote unit is required, where have you guys installed it ?

can you get a pic of the screen once you select a XM channel? the pic above is just when you can see your presets, but once you select a channel, what does the screen look like? also, depending on your XM tuner, it will display differently. -Ryan

Theres two screens, list and info, that is the list screen. If you hit info it will show up with a box on the side, a screen logo, and the info.

The pics aren't that great, but here's a few shots of all the screens I have. The first one is the screen you asked about...

XM Channel screen

FM Screen

Map Screen

Rear View Camera Screen

Rear View Camera with Nav. Screen

Did you see this thread?

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...vn&forum_id=20

A buddy of mine in town had it installed...loved it so much, I picked one up myself...going to have it installed in a month or so.

The thing I like about the 5435 is you can pop a DVD right into the unit...I believe the Pioneer needs a separate player in the car. Now I know the DVD is not supposed to work unless the parking break is engaged, but there are ways around that...not that I would EVER consider doing that Officer

that eclipse is pretty nice. seems like double din is really popular on this board, have you guys seen the new alpine iva-w200? that should be pretty nice, it has a dvd player built in too. just doesn't have nav, but you can add nav for either 700 or 1600. just another alternative.
