when shopping for an 8'' sub for the rear of my c4 i noticed they have single and dual voice coil subs. whats the differance? which is better and why? which one should i get.
also, they list the sensitvity of the subs...i've seen some at 83db and some as high as 91db. what is better and what does it mean.
thanks

if you have room to install two subs, then get single voicecoil drivers. But if you can only install one sub, then go dual coil (makes it easy to combine the L & R channels into a single sub).
It really all depends on how many subs you are getting and what kind of amp
neither sub sounds better and neither is louder than another. It is all about matching the impedence up to the amplifier to get the most out of it.
Sensistity is the relation of the sound it will prduce with 1 watt at 1 meter. The higher the number the louder that speaker will be at 1 watt. Does that mean the higher # speaker is better....no, hell no. In fact, when it comes to sheer output, the lower # speaker usally does better since they handle more power. Some manufactures fudge their sensistivity numbers (as well as other numbers ) Basically, do not go by sensitivty when it comes to a sub. If you are shopping for speakers to be driven by a headunit, then yes, consider sensistity as well as the other measurements
