I notice a lot of posts regarding high dollar detectors. I haven't used one in years. I had an Escort a few years back. Got zapped speeding with either instant on or laser; can't remember. Anyway, my point is that when the detector when off, I was clocked; no warning, no nothing. My question is whether any of the modern detectors have any way to warn/ prevent this? If not, isn't it a waste of money? Do most patrol cars still use conventional radar that would give some type of warning? I was under the impression that those days were gone.
nothing is gonna prevent an instant on attack.....you have to hope your detector is good enough to pick up the signal while he's zappin' someone else or a lot of guys are lazy and just leave the gun on....IMO the V1 is the best out there......love the arrows....
Alot of departments still use conventional radar. Most have been updated. The biggest problem is the instant on guns. By the time the officer hits you its too late. Some leave it on patrol mode in which it runs constantly. This is what most radar detectors pick up. The new laser guns are getting pretty tricky as well. I have seen one with a instant on feature where it doens't give the radar/laser detector enough time to warn you. Most of the officers here have video now as well. This really slims the chances of getting out of a ticket. Even if the radar and laser is out of spec. they can determine speed thru video. The video also has your speed with a picture of your car. If you have a radar/laser jammer it may come up at zero but they can still pace you and determine thru video if you are speeding. There are alot of new unmarked cars in Orlando as well that are test vehicles with the latest goodies in law enforcement. The latest vehicles I have seen so far are: PT Cruiser, Pontiac GTO, FHP CAMARO unmarked, Mach 1 Mustangs, 05 GT mustngs, Maurader with Cobra engine, and my personal favorite the crotch rockets. The look like normal motorcycles but the officers wear the race suites and have hidden lights on the bikes. The only clue is a small badge on the helmet and suit.

Im curious as to how the video works?
It would still need some sort of speed detection device. The act of taping itself does not determine speed.
I dont know about other states, but VA uses VASCAR. Thats when the cops times you in between two defined white lines in the road. That time versus distance ='s your speed. No radar used. That is the worse kind, because you dont even get the reach around of even knowing that you were instant - on'd
FLALS@ is dead on the money with what he is saying, Haven't heard of the croch rocket cops here in Ill. yet but plenty of unmarked. I got nailed in my c5 about 6 months ago by unmarked white mustang highway patrol. accidently passed him on the expressway at 2 in the morning, he wrote me for 120 in a 55 and no front plate and improper lane change, $570 in fines and $500 for the attorney, got off with 90 day supervision and a small lecture from the judge But on the other hand my dector has saved my butt many times, I highly recommend Valentine, I have 3 of them, One on the Croch Rocket the vet and the sequoia

As stated above they use the markings from surrounding areas. (light poles, road markings, etc. There are certain speeding areas around Orlando that they have marking on the road that they use to time you. Mainly for the aircraft patrols but vehicle partols use them as well.
Most of the videos around Orlando has the speed tied into the video. The officers as well as the person in front or behind. I have seen on a vehicle where its all done by voice command. Including activating the light, siren, etc. The same vehicle had a heads up display with all the data on it.

I think that you will find that a video camera has LIDAR or RADAR built into the unit, which then interfaces with the video. There is no way that a video camera can time the car between light poles and then display the time in the video clip. Timing between traps is manual in nature.
I have a SOLO 5 that ive been using for 10+ years and it still works like a CHARM,but we work as a team.
I do not speed all the time but when i do i speed i speed with what the terrain gives me
Around corners i slow down ,going over hills slow down ECT;ECT, i only speed when giving the better odds of not getting stopped and i have never recieved a ticket yet KNOCK ON WOOD.
I always use a guinea (sp?) pig. Find someone else that is running like 80 or something and stay back a fair distance from them as to pace them but let them get the instant on attack. I have a few detectors sitting packed away somewhere. I tended to get over confident and got paced by jonny-law twice!
