Default amplifier confusion

I am taking out all of the bose stuff. This is my first trip into the audio stuff so im full of questions. This is what im thinking of doing so far
Pioneer DEH-P77DH head unit 1.5 din
CDT component speakers up front
Two 10 inch infinity subs in subthump box
I am really confused on all the different amplifiers,2 ch.,4ch.,mono. Do i need 2 amps?
Please advise me on what amplifier or amplifiers that i need.

I was in the same boat as not knowing what to put in mine...
CDT components up front, CDT coax in the rear and 2 - Infinity 10" subs.

I decided to go with two amps, mono block JL audio 500/1 for the subs and JL audio 450/4 - 4 channel for the fronts and the rears.

Being you are not running rears you could get away with a 4 channel amp and bridge (connect two of the channels together) for your subs and run the other two channels for your fronts, atleast that is how I under stand it but I am far from knowing what I am doing.

Check out this pic of the JL amp and on the left side where the connectors go you will see how to bridge two channels for your subs.

a mono amp is generally better suited for the needs of a sub. 2 chan and 4 chan amps are more universal. If i were you I'd get a 4 channel high end amp that is stable to 2ohms bridged. bridged being the important word here. You will also need to make sure your subs are 4 ohms or if they are dual voice coil subs they will have to be 2 ohms per voice coil.

what is your reason for going with two 10's? not that it's a bad choice but it's a bit more costly (versus a single 12) to do it correctly. you'll be moving more air then a single 12 but you'll need more power too

if you go with 2 subs you may have better luck with two amps, a mono for the subs and a 2 chan for the fronts. if you are going with one sub you can get away with a 4 chan amp. check out the phoenix gold ti500.4 i had this running a single 12" dvc sub and it kicked pretty hard.

you *could* run two 10's (and the fronts) off one amp but you may be starving the subs so a single 12" would be better and still kick ya in the pants. if you choose that phoenix gold amp i suggested (i suggested it because i have experience with this amp, there are plenty of other amps that will do what you want just fine too) you can run your entire system with just one amp. if you do choose rears just use the head unit's amp to power the rear speakers...but i would suggest going with out the rears and see how you like it
