Alterative to radar detectors
Needless to say, they drove that vette into the ground.

If it is the book I read its called
A Speeder's Guide to Avoiding Tickets
by James M. Eagen

A Speeder's Guide To Avoiding Tickets; The essential manual for life in the fast lane.... by Sgt. James M. Eagan, N.Y.S.P. (Ret.)
First printed in 1990, so the advice about CB radios may be a little dated, but the other information contained in it is perfectly relevant. It's an inexpensive paperback and worth the small cost.
Didn't you love the part about the attractive young nun??

For some reason, in the Vette or Motorcycles I go no more than 5mph above the speed limit. In any other car, I'm trying to break the land speed record. But I've calmed down over the years. The insurance hike alone from the speeding tickets was enough for me to slow down.
Also, coming back from Atlantic City to DC I saw an unmarked Pontiac GTO that pulled over a car on I95 just above Baltimore. When I had my C5 I flashed an unmaked Ford Expedition from the left lane. Got pulled over and handed an fat ticket. He said I was 2mph from reckless driving.
I've seen unmarked Mistangs, Explorers, mini vans and the standard unmakred Chevy Impala's, crown vics etc. Maryland has too many unmarked cars to even drive fast.
My approach when I really want to hustle is to hold out for some yahoo to zoom by, then pace him at about 10 car lengths. The only thing I'd have to worry about is what is coming up behind me. This has worked many times on I-95. The car ahead would trigger the speed traps, hit his brakes and I'd have plenty of time to slow down without looking too obvious.
At night, I just do the speed limit.
We call it chasing the rabbit when you let them get ahead of you so they get stopped first, most of the time it lets you see the pursuit car before it gets you. If your in oregon and running up or down the columbia river on 84 you better be looking for a late model p.u., the lights are hidden in the grill.

And now for my middle of no-where story, hehe
Pre-vette, I was driving a RED 95 ford thunderbird. I live in Georgia and my father died in MO and was buried in IA last year. So I drove up to see him in MO and for the services in IA. All was well and good, until I got on the interstate 75 ( the one connecting KC and St. Louis) I set my cruise to 73 and thought all was cool. Then out of no where, a RED camaro zips by and I see alot of break lights in front of me. But I'm an idiot and didn't turn off my cruise. Next thing that happens is MO HP pull over me and the camaro (I am really hating those cars now
) And I get a ticket for 85 in a 65 and following too closely, Bah.. So they got a "visiting the state" tax from me. The rest of my trip through MO was at 60 locked in cruise

Any radar detector pays itself withing the first beep.

i have also seen ehre, a 84 pontiac unbird (unmarked), 02 suburban, 84 F-150, multiple unmarked Vans ( E350's....LOL) and on 270 and 495 they use a helicopter.
I wonder if that excuse would work with a cop, I was thinking of it at the time. "This crazy redneck was blinding me with his brights and trying to push me off the road! There he goes right there, he just blew by us, go get em!" Worth a shot anyways.

Interesting stat, in Milwackie there were 14,000 speeding tickets givin in 2005. Only 7 were below 15 MPH over.[/QUOTE]

Now I'm not saying I never speed but I pick my roads carefully.
I have tried them all and forget the CB radio what a waste of space and time. You will be better off with a scanner especially against aircraft. It is fun listening to them from the air giving instructions and speeds to the ground units CHP. You will get other uses with a scanner too like traffic conditions direct from news aircraft or from a police/fire / ambulance dispatcher. You will also know what areas to avoid if possible or know why you are sitting in traffic because of a collision and you will know location of collision.
The problem is with a permanent neat installation where do you install this mobil scanner in a Corvette? Let me know.
You can use a handheld scanner but it is kind of messy with all of those wires plus you will want to use external amplified speakers to get over the roadnoise and you will have to contend with wires and a temporary installation. Also an external antenna makes the difference between night and day. On a corvette you really can't put an external antenna on so you are stuck with a rubber duck antenna or with the inside wire antenna. Point being you are stuck with an inside antenna. You can opt for one of those optional ducky antennas that are suppose to boost the signal but it is hit or miss on that and you end up paying more $$$ for something that may not work any better than the duck antenna..
