Default Help me choose a sub setup.

Help me choose a sub setup. This is for a C6 Vert. Keeping in mind ease of installation and cost, I am deciding between the following:

a) 2 JL Audio 8W3V2's - one in each box
b) 1 JL Audio 10W3V2 - in one of the storage boxes
c) 1 JL Audio 10W6v2

All require 0.625 cu ft of space. Here are the questions:
1. Are 2 8W3v2's better than 1 10W3v2?
2. If so, are 2 8W3v2's better tha 1 10W6v2?
3. Is the upgrade to a 10W6v2 over 10W3v2 necessary? Will it provided tighter sound, does it get louder, and what's the point? I like good tight sound with some nice low end, but I'm not trying to build a competetion system by any means. Would I even notice the difference?
4. How much power is needed for 2 subs? Simply double that of for 1 sub?

What type of bass are you looking for? What music do you listen to? How much space do you want to give up for a sub set up?

I am not very familiar with the rear of a C6 but based on your questions:

If you are not into rap/hip hop and don't need a ton of bass 2 8's in the right enclosures would probably do you well. 8's will provide very tight, clean bass but will not provide a ton of "boom" associated with the afore mentioned music.

10w6v2 > 10w3v2. Will play louder and hit harder provided you put enough watts to it. Kind of like comparing a Camry to a Lexus. (not that extreme but you get the point) Both are nice but the w6 is clearly a better sub.

If you plan on running a couple hundred watts think 2 8's or 1 10w3. If you want serious bass go with a 10w6 and run at least 500 watts to it.

Thanks for the response. So, based on what you're saying, the 1 10w6 hits harder and louder than the 10w3; does that in turn mean it'll be better than 2 8w3's? Will it be as tight? Do you think I'd be best off with 1 10w6?

I listen to all kinds of music; my favorite is blues-based rock (eg SRV, Allman Bros, etc), but also jam bands (Little Feat, SCI), alt rock (Pearl Jam, STP, Limp Biscuit to present). Occasional jazz as well.

Don't forget, it's a convertible, so I don't know what kind of impact this will have - has to go through the top when stored and some sound will be lost?

How many watts do you plan on pushing? the w6 needs a fair amount of watts to really come alive (400+ from what I know). 2 8's can be very nice in the right enclosure with good clean watts to them (150-200 watts rms each will push a good quality 8 like the JL you mentioned well)

Based on your music I would think that any of your three options will play well ... the 8's giving you the fastest "punchy" rock bass which you could even cross over a bit higher frequency than the 10" options due to cone size.

Any of the above 3 choices you outlined for yourself will do well for you IMO. The 10w6 is probably the all around best choice for musicality as well as "boom". Keep the watts in the recommened range as well as the enclosure size and you are gtg.

Thanks; I do appreciate it. Budget concerns lead me to these choices; otherwise, I would look at 2 10w6's. However, it doubles the price of the sub, the power requirement and the enclosure....that's why if I went with two, I'd do the smaller one with the lower power requirement.

I'll probably go with the one 10w6.

with the right amount of power (to the 10w6) would the two 8w3's have that much of a noticable difference in 'punchy' bass? The w6 with enough power would be hard to beat. wouldn't it?

I dont have a lot of personal experience with the jl's; as of late, but from what i remembered the w6 was amazing.

From my experience 8's can be crossed over slightly higher (maybe like 120hz vs 80-90hz for a 10) which will put them a bit more in to the "punchy" bass range which they can handle due to their cone area. They are often good for systems that are not after perfect imaging or a ton of bass.

The 10w6 has gotten great reviews and I have only listened to one system with them and it was quite good (but also quite high $$$ ). Very musical and accurate and hit nice and hard when it was asked.
