A lot of it depends on what you like "sound" wise. I have had both the Diamond 6" hex series (top of the line at the time) and the Focal Poly kevlar k2's (6.5'") which is an upper middle speaker in the Focal line and they were just flat more musical and accurate than the Diamonds were. The Diamonds struggled to play much midbass at all. Now this comes from a perspective of about 4 years ago for the Diamonds and 3 year old Focal's.
I am going with Focal again. I love their Polykevlar line. The d9's however are REALLY good based on the one install I have heard them in. I prefer the sound of the polykevlar mid myself however.
It all comes down to how much $$$$ you want to spend. And the best components in the world will not sound that great with shyt power .. .so spend some money and put some quality watts to whatever you decide to buy. (IE Genesis, Diamond, Zapco type amps ... not Jensen or Kenwood) Most front stages from a quality company will need at least 75 watts to the mid to remotely bring out the full potential of the speaker ... better served to throw 100+ at it IMO.
Audition both if you can ... if you go Focal spend the money on the Polykevlar line .. you will not be disappointed. And if you go k3's look around for a set of TN51 or TN52 tweeters as the tn47 tweeter was not as good.
Thanks guys for the input I have Focal K3p's in my Coupe and love them... I just picked up a 02 vert and need to start on the audio system. Just wanted to see if Diamond would sound as good as Focal... As always want to spend wisely...
I installed a set of the Diamond D6 components a couple weeks ago. I intend to power them with an amp later, but just wanted to get them in for now. They sound decent now, but will sound amazing with all the power they need later. Do yourself a favor, power your components with an amp, in case you were on the fence about it.
I will use a 450/4 Jl Audio for the front and rears, and will use a 500/1 JL Audio on the Sub... I am thinking about using a ID 12" this time for the subwoofer in a Subthump box...
