My DRZ9255 or whatever the number is, gets way hot after an hour or so, at first I thought it was the CD player that was getting hot, but even just listening to the radio it heats up. It gets hot enough that I am worried it might be ruining the internals or even start a fire in the dash. One time it got hot enough that I could smell the CD.
Taking back to the installer tomorrow, but anyone had a similar experience or any idea why it is overheating?? The temperature is enough that it is uncomfortable to hold your fingers on it.
that doesnt sound right...but i have heard of some stereos doing that. When sony first came out with there explode series, they would over heat cause of poor design. My friend had one and it got crazy hot. make sure non of the vents are blocked on the unit as well
it can be, but make sure that nothing is covering up the vents on the unit. Also, the c5's put a lot of heat in the tunnel area which can be part of your problem as well. Thats why you hear warnings about putting your ipods and mp3 players in the ash tray area bc of the heat. Did you end up taking it back to the installer to check it out. Also see if they have had similar complaints with that model from other owners. You can ask about this problem at a car audio forum, like http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb3/index.php
It is normal to have a headunit with internal amps to heat up but not to the point of smelling the CD inside. Heat is a killer of electonics, see what can be done to cool it before it smokes up on you
