Getting Err message with cd player
I have a stock audio system in my 92 LT1. Whenever I put in a cd it sits for a second and spits it back out saying ERR. It rarely every works but sometimes it will actually play the cd when I put it in. I've tried multiple CD's and none of them are scratched or anything as they are pretty much brand new. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I don't want to have to replace the audio system in the car as I want to leave it stock because it suits my needs as it is and I could spend the money on other parts. Thanks for any help you may provide.

I've also got this message. I've heard that homemade CDs that have not been "finalized" will cause this error. I think that if a CD is "finalized" it can't have any more recordings on it. Most of the CDs I do have play but most are not custom made CDs.

Usually a read error. Can happen with CDRW's etc.
If it's a factory recording, it's probably a problem with the laser/internals. Over time they become misaligned and can be serviced, but it's often smarter to just buy a new head unit.
