Default Recommended sub for a 0.4 cu ft box?

I built a box, it's only .42 cu ft, that's all the room there is for it.

Looking for a 10" sub to stick in there. How big a deal are the sealed box ratings on these subs? Most are > .65 cu ft, and there's a few rated below that.

Should I pay any attention to these numbers?

I'm looking for something mild <200rms that I can maybe drive with a 4+1 amp.

Loading it with poly fill will make the sub think the box is bigger. Don't sweat if you are not perfect.

Check out Image Dynamics.
http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/page.php?page=products#
They have several 10's that will fit you box size and they make a very nice product. I have two 8 inch subs in my car and they handle plenty of power and sound great.
It is true that poly fill will make the woofer think the space is a bit bigger but your only looking at about 10%-20% at the most.
As far as staying in the manufactures specs I feel it is important. Yes the driver will work in a box that is smaller than recommended but it will not sound as good as it can. My experiance with a box that is too small, say .4 cu. ft. when spec is .65 cu. ft., is the woofer sounds a bit dead, it just doesn't have the space to work with that it needs.

Hope this helps and any other thoughts just post and I'm sure you will get the help you need.

Diamond Audio makes a 10 inch sub that works in the .34 sealed box.

Boston Acoustics might make something that might work as well.

And of course Eclipse

All Diamond Audio's stuff is rated between .65 and 1.25 cu ft.

A few of the Boston's look good for small volumes, I've been impressed with boston stuff in the past.

I'll just call crutchfield and let them overcharge me in exchange for some helpful advice.

Looks like Image Dynamics is the way to go...

So with a bridged 2-channel amp, I need a single voice coil sub or dual for 4 ohm?

What ohm load will your amp run at, 2ohm or 4 ohm? This will help to decide if you need a dual 4 ohm speaker or a dual 2 ohm speaker.

I don't have an amp. But I'm looking at bridging 2 channels off a 4ch amp, and powering the front components off the rest.

So this'd leave me with a 2ohm output right?

Yep, in that case you would end up with the amp on those two channels running at two ohms. Just make sure that the amp you are getting is able to run at two ohms on those two channels, many are not rated to do so. If you end up needeing the amp to see 4 ohms you can wire a dual 2 ohm sub in series and the amp will see 4 ohms.

I bought a dual-2 ohm sub.

I really have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

So the amp will be 4 ohms to each of the front channels, and bridged 4 ohms to the sub.

that's the safest bet, you may not get the most power but you wont screw up and fry an amp either (probably hard to do anyways with all the protection they put into these things)

Can't go wrong with Image Dynamics .

Figured I would throw this link in even though it is a 12". Designed to work in enclosures down to .25 ft^3.

Here's my setup so far:

Image Dynamics IDQ10, 250/500 watt

JBL GTO75.4 520 watts, 104rmsx4, 284rms bridged.

I'm getting a jigsaw tonight to cut the enclosure hole.

I'm very happy with the enclosure, I'll show some pics later.
