K40 also offers a portable unit for under $300. I have this unit and it works well for me. It has saved my butt a few times.

Lots of gimmicks out there so spend wisely ...Keep away from Whistler detectors, and Specture Anti-photo plates-gimmicks.-these don't work.. The v-1 is tried and true and will keep you up with the latest technology.

OK one last shot on the false alarms and I'll shut up ...I will admit I get false alarms but any way you cut it, any alarm can be real. That's why V1 gives more false alarms...because it tells you about ALL of them. I've gotten used to occassional beeps and just keep the volume where it's good for me.
It's just a matter of priorities. Some guys will buy less-then-the-best headers to save $100 (I wouldn't), others will stick with run flats even though they're noisier and grip less (I would/do). If you want the very best radar detector it's a V1 and thanks to the arrows there is nothing even remotely close to it ....but the price is $400 and some extra beeps. I'm OK with that.
BTW no one'ds mentioned it, but Mike Valentine and another fellow whose name I can't recall ...founded Cincinatti Micrwave ...makers of Passport and Escort. Not sure why they split. Just FYI.

OK One last last shot...for all you guys who want a nice quiet ride from your radar dectector....just pick up a tuna can and some spray paint, a little super glue and you're set...
Oh, maybe an air freshener too...
