Default C5 New Alpine HU Install Help

Just in the process of installing NEW HU in my C5. Got the Soungate spliced with the Alpine wiring harness.

My question is this:

RED WIRE ----
1) Where did you guys splice in the RED wire?
2) Is the RED wire needed, since we have the yellow wire?

THey say to splice the red wire inot the ingnition BROWN wire. At what point do you connect the red wire to the BROWN ignition wire?

Thanks,
D

I am about to start the exact same project, and have the same questions. I also purchased a gmcrv1 and was going to try to install it saturday.

I do not see why we couldnt use a T-TAP on the OEM harness in the car (for the orange illumination and red ignition wires) and connect the wires from the alpine harness directly to the t-tap with quick connects... anyone see a problem with that ?

The red wire is for the ignition.

Does the soundgate keep the radio playing after the key is removed as long as the doors arent opened?

T-TAP (left) Quick connects (right)

Also, the instructions that came with the gmcrv1 say to remove the convertible top storage cover for this install.. is that really needed???

i've never installed one but you would need both, one gives the unit power and the red wire turns the soundgate on and off with the ignition. you can find that wire in the pasenger footwell or tap off fuse no 22. check out the c5 faq for more info on what wire to tap off of.

you are going to lose rap features when you remove the stock h/u. there are some products available to retain rap, such as the unit from top down tech

There is a red wire that you can tap off of the ignition.. Look in the pic, the arrow shows where it is. Take the panel off (which it should be already for the radio install.) You will see 1 red wire. That be it.

On your H/U. Red is Ignition (Only on with Ignition) Yellow is constent/Battery (On all the time).

I used the factory plug in adaptor for my install .. tapped into the factory red wire and ran a seperate yellow wire located in the passenger footwell above the left corner of the brain there. There should be 3 wires there that are short and taped together. The yellow you can use for the radio install.

Isn't this the same 3 wires that a lot of people tap into for V1 hardwire?
