Ok guys I just want the skinny on which sub I should purchase for this box. http://subthump.com/images/vette/flat1.jpg
Its a 10 inch opening. I understand that JL makes the perfect sub for this but I'm not sure I wanna spend that kind of money right now. I have a Pioneer DEH-p7700 H/U and Alpine componet door and rear speakers.
Also if you guys could recommend a good amp that won't break the bank.
My budget is $300 to $400 for both componets.
I would reccomend a JL 250/1 amp and an Image Dynamics IDQ 10. Most of the time you can get them new off of Ebay for alot less than retail. You should be able to get both of them within your budget. The JL amp will give you the same wattage regardless of whether the amp see anywhere from a 2 to 4 ohm load because of their regulated power supply. I just installed an Image Dynamics IDQ 12 in my coupe and it really sounds great. Good sound quality, very musical instead of just a "thump" and it will hit pretty hard if you want it to. If you use Ebay to buy the amp, stay away from IndoAudio and AmericanAudio. They are the same company and list things they don't have in stock and then give you the run around until they receive them. It took over 3 weeks to get an amp and my door speakers.
Image Dynamics IDQ 10"
Arc Audio 10" (2 lines one is more SQ style similar to IDQ)
Elemental designs 10"
JL 10w6 (have to make request with subthump for proper box)
Infinity Perfect DVQ 10"
Diamond Audio d3 or possibly d6 (check mounting depth)
A lot has to do with how many watts you are going to send to your sub and what ohm load the amp needs to see. JL amps really do not carer what ohm you send it it all makes the same power. Also what music you like to listen to.
For your budget I would look at the Ele designs 10", the Arc Audio kar series, the IDQ 10", and the Infinity perfect 10". All can be had around the $150 or less mark (check out ebay) One other note, there is a preorder group buy coming up very soon on a single voice coil 4ohm 12" sub at www.diymobileaudio.com that works in very small enclosures and is quite efficient. Borrows from a magnet design made famous by Focal subs that run $300 to $800 a piece.
