Also, you are not limited to 1.5 DIN heads. 1.0 DIN heads will fit fine with an install kit, and will have more features than a compariably priced 1.5 DIN head.
As for 4ever21, I cannot address why his HU is not working... but I can say this - don't bother trying to interface with the Bose. It just ain't worth the grief.
I suggest looking at Eclipse for a HU. There has been a lot of debate lately as to how good Alpine really is. To be honest, the 7998 I currently have sounds fabulous, but Alpine has recently made it obsolete... and I am not happy with that... There have been other comments about sound quality in the cheaper units and overall durability.
Clarion was making some nice high end units... and if you want Pioneer, check their Premier line.
Rockford-Fosgate isn't bad... neither are some of the higher end JVC units. I have heard the JVC has a pretty good tuner section, but I don't have first had experience with that.
If you want to spend more, and get something really special, check out McIntosh. The look of their head unit would fit PERFECTLY into an early C4 dash. The street price seems to be about $1000.00 for the HU. You will need amps/speakers and such... but if you DIY the install yourself, you can do a near custom job, in stages, that will flat out ROCK for the cheap. Consider this, the HU, a good 2 channel amp (ArcAudio, JL Audio, Zapco, Butler) and a good pair of speakers for the front (JL Audio, Focal, CDT) you are touching a little over $2k, but you will DIY the install, saving several hundred, and you won't have some ignorant chimp taking your car apart.

A forum member had one in his C5, and it was one impressive sounding pieces.

This is the Pioneer DEH P47DH and can be had for under $200. Pick up some 6x9's for the rear at under a $100 and either some door speakers or 4x6 speakers for the dash pad and you are good to go. You'll have to rewire to remove the blose system but for under $400 and you have a way better sounding system than you had before. Fills the dash space perfectly as mentioned before and has all the features you could ever want.
