Problem w/ stock stereo deck. Only "Recall" button makes the display light up?!

Problem w/ stock stereo deck. Only "Recall" button makes the display light up?!

This was kinda weird....the other day, I was just cruising, all of a sudden my stereo shut off. It's a '99 coupe, stock delco deck & the GM stock 12-disc changer in the rear. Problem is, I cannot get the display on the stereo to even light up; unless I hit the "RECALL" button.....I've changed out the discs, etc....etc....Not even my radio works. Only way to even make the display [the blue lit lcd screen on the stock delco] is to hit "RECALL".....then it just goes black after about 20 seconds. Very frustrating.....I need tunes man!!!

I figure it's got to be something minor, if not, I plan on getting a moderate system [new deck, amp, & maybe a 10", possibly a 12" - Don't want it to take up a lot of room in the back] installed in a couple months.

Any help fellas?

Rrrrrr......

This is starting to **** me off. At first I thought I just set off the theftlock on my stock Delco in my 99 coupe. But, the radio WILL NOT TURN ON. The display will still light up when I touch the following buttons - "Recall", "Min" & "HR" buttons. Then the LCD just goes out. WTF? I went through & checked my fuses. [PITA] up under the passengers feet, not too bad though. So what you guys think? Is my stock Delco toast or what? Also, it's not displaying any codes, like "LOC", etc.....

Also, I have the stock 12-disc in the rear, I have tried basically every combination of putting in the cds. But, when I turn the key to "Acc", or even start it, it just clanks around like usual, I can see the little cd icon on the Delco's display blink for about 10 seconds, then the LCD screen just turns black again. Although, I can still hear the changer in the rear, but I have no control over it from the deck. I've tried everything I can think of, getting zero sound. I've turned every ****, hit every combination of buttons [& held them for a while to see if it would kick on] Same thing, screen just goes black.

Also, it will take a tape & the little tape icon apprears for a min., then just black again! WTF????

wow... that sounds like it's toasts. i wish i could offer some insight on this but i'm at a loss

Thanks anyway.....I got a couple other ideas, mainly involves me taking a hammer to it, but I'll prob. just end up buying a new deck, etc. Need some bumps to hear, I'm too used to my recently sold '94 Z28's system.

I live in Bakersfield. Thanks for offering help though, I already got a system lined up. Just trying to decide if I need a LCD monitor & dvd player in it.

well, here's an update.....

Talked to the guy @ the dealership; he said it was toasted. Also said he's never seen one do just exactly that, but had seen many similar malfunctions on those units. Time for an upgrade. In about a week I'll have to show off my new deck & sub.
