Head Unit with Best iPod Interface?
I'm looking to acquire a C5 soon and make some audio upgrades, and I'd really like a nice DVD/CD/etc head unit with a good iPod interface. I've seen Alpine and Pioneer's offerings, but wondered what else might be out there...
I've got a video iPod, so I'm interested in:
Any that display album artwork?
Any that play iPod videos?

'06 Alpine line has a series of decks that offer "full speed IPOD interface". They start at around $160 and run up to about $400. Gotten pretty good reviews so far from what I have seen.

Looks like so far I should avoid Pioneer. I'm looking to get this unit and a modified double-DIN center console:
Alpine IVA-W200
2-DIN DVD/CD/MP3/WMA Receiver/AV Head Unit

Last years pioneers sucked for the ipod interface, however the new headunits from pioneer (which are coming out now) have a great ipod interface. It has the same layout on the headunit as the ipod has

Is this built into the unit itself? I just installed a D2 with the external iPod interface. Total crap from an interface point of view. If they have another external interface coming out, I will be upset for having wasted the money. In fact even if they don't, it is still a waste of money.

The interface is still the same part, the software on the headunits have all been updated. I plugged it into a new DEHP 6800mp headunit and the layout was just like the Ipods. I haven't gotten in a D2 yet to try it out. I still have the D1 out on display. Hopefully there will be some sort of download patch for this because I know how horrible the control was before.

There will be no update for the D2 or D1 for that matter. This according to Pioneer's tech support:
"Unfortunately there is no upgrade for these two units. The new units have the upgraded full function controls between it and the iPod but the D2 only had the map upgrade and not a hardware upgrade."
Last I checked, the D2 was a new unit. It just came out. What a rip.
