Default I took the plunge

After years of debating whether or not I should get rid of the stock H/U and Bose speakers, the mod bug bit me hard!! I've purchased Simpleman's Eclipse CD 8053 H/U and balanced line driver, a set of Audiobahn ABC 600 3N 3 way components, a Soundstream PCA 760 2 channel, and a Poweracoustic 5 farad cap. I already have a Soundstream PCA 2000D 1 channel powering 2 Farenheit CK 10 subs.

I hope to have everything in about a week then take a week to install/wire/mount everything. I'll take pics when I'm done. I wanted to wait till I was done to post but I'm just too excited to stay quiet!!!

Nice some good quality components there. Do yourself and your system a favor and do some sound deadening of some sort, in the doors especially. G'luck on the install

O.K. So how much of a difference does sound deadening the doors make? If it makes a big difference, I'll do it but I really dont want to completely dismantle my whole interior doing the frost king mod.

takin the interior apart isnt really that bad. once youve takin it apart, you say to yourself, "thats it?!" just label everything that you remove from the car and it will make putting it back to gether a piece of cake.... Sound deadning does make a noticable difference. How much you put on will make the biggest difference and what your sound deadning requirements are will also depend on how much you put on

Everything in audio is subjective. What sounds great to me might sound like a** to you. Sound deadening mainly helps to lessen the amount of resonance that occurs in the panels of the vehicle during audio reproduction. Stock systems rarely have the power or the accuracy to cause resonance problems and that is the main reason that most cars outside of high end luxury sedans do not have much, if any, sound deadening in them.

Back to the point. Sound deadening will mainly improve your midbass reproduction (most of the "car" noise while driving is in this frequency range). It will also allow you to listen to the stereo as opposed to turning the stereo up loud enough to drown out the tire/road noise and engine/exhaust noise.

I personally did some Edead v3 (liquid), Cowboy's "frost king" like kit (mainly for heat purposes) and some Dynamat Extreme in my car. Total weight added might be 10-12lbs. Stereo components probably another 50lbs. I figure I only weigh about 180 so I have a leg up on some of the big guys around here still

I have never done a lot of deadening in my previous installs, nor have I ever done a 3 way component system before. I doubt I will have another car that does not have both now.

i took a ride in a semi deadened c5, similar mods as mine (besides my lack of a muffler and the car just felt so much better and solid. he had a stock stereo so i cant really comment on that aspect of it, but if you noticed my post today, i am sold and it pushed me over the edge. I will be doing mine this or next weekend.

I put the Farenheits and the Soundstream in over the winter. There is entirely way too much bass for the rest of the system. My old setup of 3 JL10W3's and JBL 1200 1 channel had a spl level of 143. The 2 CK 10's with the Soundstream 2000 Hit 149 spl and theres more left in the amp.

Kirby, let me get all this installed in my car then we'll get together. I really want to see your new car and go for a ride as well.

Now that's what I'm talking about! To me this is one of the best subs you can get if you can find them now. I have two 12" CK12D's available that I will be putting in some boxes here soon. Although only one 12" will be able to fit, lol. These are definately some strong subs. I'm sure there is also some more left in those subs too, lol. Nice combination! I will be using a Hifonics BX1500D for my 12".

Kirby, thanks a bunch for the offer. I'll be able to handle the sound deadening and stereo install at my house but know that you never need an invitation to stop by the house. If you want to help out or just b.s. thats way fine with me.

Now that rack sure would be nice for a clutsh install..... hmmmm....
