it's too "bolt on" for me.

but as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

Default Responce to DPG's question.

I went this way because I wanted to have the Car PC experiece, have the ability to move the system between cars and leave the cars basically intact. The Xenarc LCD screen is held by a bracket that attaches to the passenger seat front mount point. It is on a short pivot arm so that it swings back out of a passengers way (and into position for the passenger to watch a DVD).

As an aside, the ability to play an IPOD through the head unit is under rated. I have even added an AUX input device to my Silverado... different radio model and different device but same result.

Neil.

Nice setup. I was looking into same idea.
A few questions:

Where did you get the cpu?
How are you powering it?
Are you running wireless?
Where are you mounting the cpu?

Default Reply to MK's questions

The mother board is Ibase MB896. The CPU is used from ebay, a 1.4GHz Pentium M and 1GB DDR2 memory installed.

The power is by a DC to DC PSU. The one I'm using is M2-ATX rated at 160 watts. It aslo powers the LCD monitor.

Have an Atheros WiFi card installed with two small antennas cabled out to the inside rear wheel wells. Fairly good contectivity. May play with other higher gain antennas.

The system box is setting behind the waterfall.

Checkout my web pages for more photos and detail.

Nice engineering! I'm looking at putting one of those in the lockable C4 compartments (I like hiding everything)
